hey guys - I know you guys have been discussing this beast on many different levels - I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing it in person on Saturday FOS and some insights I was privileged to gather during the event I have outlined in the FOS thread - some of you may find some of it interesting...

If I can own a .1 GT3, .1 GT3 RS, .2 GT3, .2 GT2 RS and .2 GT3 RS and only have the .2 GT2 RS depreciate I still call that a very cheap run of car ownership myself. I think people have lost sight of cars actually costing money to own, we've all been very fortunate recently and at some point it'll return to the norm.

From sources on the ground who had the car started and revved for them - video won't do it justice.
Turbo Porsches never have an impact in videos, because they are much more throaty and deep which a microphone can't pickup and then relay back to you when listening on phone, tablet, crap computer speakers etc.
AP said that the engine sound has been modeled off 930 Era Race Cars, which I think they have nailed.
Can't wait to see and hear for myself!

Please correct me if I'm wrong - but doesn't Porsche, as a car manufacture need to meet Federal laws on noise produced by a motor ? If i recall - EU over last 4 years has gotten very strict on noise "pollution" and so is the U.S, and I'm assuming other governments around the world are as well. I would assume Porsche has to make sure they're within those standards in order to avoid another VW diesel soap opera, since they cater to those markets. GT3's sound very muffled from factory - until you do a center bypass.

It sounded good in person. With an aftermarket exhaust it would be unreal... doesn't need one in my book.

Delta between .1 GT3 and RS was about $45K. This GT2 RS is more than $110K beyond the GT3 RS, and is well over double the cost of the .1 GT3. That does make me think the price is too high relative to the other cars, but this is the king of the hill and induces much lust, and there are enough guys that can easily afford it, so I think it will sell easily enough.

If you live in the USA and earn a good income, please just take a moment to understand how fortunate you are that cars are so cheap.
In Australia, this car will be nigh on $750,000 - $800,000 AUD ($615,000 USD).
Let that sink in for a moment.

Or you can say that cars are so expensive in Austraiia. US $300K is much more than the cost of the average US home.

More AP marketing BS-unless Porsche tricked us and made the 991 GT2RS air-cooled, which is the main reason air-cooled 911 Turbo's sound great-no water-cooled heads to muffle the engine sound anymore than the turbo's already do....

One interesting detail is that the large side intakes ahead of the rear wheels are no longer used for engine combustion intake (like they are in 991 GT3 RS). Now they are used to chill the intercoolers and the engine gets its air on the rear decklid (ram air scoops like 991.2 GT3).

- Import Taxes
- GST (Goods and Services Tax 10%)
- Luxury Car Tax (33% on anything over approx 50 something grand) (this equates to circa $200 grand on this car alone)
- On road costs and stamp duty
Car is $650,000 + on roads etc + options. So out the door (Drive Away cost) it will be $750-800K is my guess).
I know not everything is comparable, i.e. different housing costs etc, if you compare the major cities we have versus major cities you have, prices are very similar (i.e. damn bloody expensive).
No matter which why you slice and dice it, USA cars are effing cheap. A GT3 in usa is what we pay for a C63 AMG.
