You'd also be slower not having a turbo and 4WD. Who cares? The discussion was where and how much weight could be easily removed at minimal cost from current GT3/RS platform to create a lightweight, decontented 911R. Plenty is my answer.

You say potatoe, I say potato. Numbers are all over the board. Unless someone has actually measured and posted photos of the exercise it's all idle speculation.

Thank you so much for creating this thread Eduardo, and to all those who have contributed to it! I was late catching this thread, but it absolutely made my day!

Wow, there is some valuable information here. But it looks pretty hopeful for lovers of the NA GT3/RS model line, not to mention the GT2/RS.

Sounds like there is a good possibility that not only will the 991.2's stay NA, but also possibly into the next gen 911 - the 992.1, 992.2 maybe NA as well, or am I reading too much into it? 999 rolls off the tongue better than '992' but who knows what model designation they'll go with.

Living vicariously through you guys...hope to join you all someday at a RR in the future!

One other thing I recall, was AP advised getting an alignment done at about 1000-1500 km as well, especially for the RS in order to mitigate the large rear wheels rubbing, and especially if you drive on track where one might expect significant compression.

Whoopsy, I agree with you. Most of the comments here were based on the public talk by AP; and intel from private conversations may need to be measured against a different standard. I doubt any of the posts were malicious, and there obviously have been unintended consequences...

We heard nothing factual about a 911R during Andreas Preuninger's talk to us on Sunday, which was not surprising. But
I have been receiving private messages on this subject over the past few months from a Porsche customer (a Rennlister)
that is very well-connected to Porsche. His latest adds this bit to the 911R speculation mix:

looks like more news about 911R slowly leaking on the forum.

latest I heard is:

- over 500HP
- very very light: interior mods, etc.
- manual
- limited numbered run (between 500-911 produced, not decided on exact number yet)
- worst news ever: most likely no PTS (white only)
- announced and shown at Geneva 2016
- probably going to be the swan song of 991 generation and become as valuable as 997 GT3 RS 4.0 cars
- you didn't hear anything of this from me
Earlier in August the same source had pm me this:

not sure if you heard the same but my sources are telling me that 911R will be unveiled at Geneva next year.

the car is going to be manual, with the same 500HP engine from the GT3RS. the car will be extremely lightweight
and stripped out of things like rear wheel steering, etc.

i am told also big rear wing will be gone as well (not sure what will go in it's place)

the car will be a numbered limited run of around 600 units worldwide and will have special livery
(two stripes running on the edges of the hood perhaps? wasn't clear to me.)

curious if you heard anything similar or close to what I have...
Since 'you didn't hear anything from him', take all of this with a grain of salt! But it will be fun to see, when the final
911R specs are released by Porsche, if this gentleman's advance information was indeed accurate!

Saludos,
Eduardo

I heard most of those same things, this time last year from a collector friend. The difference being that manual would be an option and PDK would be standard and it would still be called an RS.

Big meetings coming up October and December this year where more info will come out.

And everyone thinks GT3 and RS allocations are hard to come by

These will all be eaten up by 918 owners and then some.

Demand will be off the charts.

It'd be really cool if they threw a ducktail on it just to complete the theme.

Wow! People are getting ridiculous. What nonsense. Are these driving enthusiasts or collectors? I am guessing the latter.

It is an asset class, often leveraged.

I know it's all speculation at this point, but I sure hope this mythical "991R" will be available in North America too. The Sport Classic was not.

since we are speculating.. are we speculating that there will be a manual gt3-engined car separate from this unicorn unobtanium 911R? i'm not clear on this point.

Dante, can you clarify what's meant by "spoiled"?

sorry...spoiled not the right word, I meant stripped...without everything unecessary inside and outside, and with much more carbon...
