I don't wanna be a buzzkill, but.. seriously.. you think the "highest person" of Porsche Motorsports will tell a guy somewhere in Sebring what kind of engine they are testing?

The 2014 RSR engine makes 470 hp out of 4liters. You think they just can go and do 580hp out of 4.1 liters?

The RS will have a carbon rear wing yes. Maybe some parts like hood and roof from carbon, but what is "extreme carbon body work"?

But good to hear that the GT3 issue is sorted out...

Look at my previous posts- toolbox. Use search from my Daytona post 2 years ago.

Also the 2014 RSR is restricted and could easily do 550-575. U aren't really that knowledgable my friend.

I doubt the NA RS will be anywhere near 580HP. Maybe I miss-read. Are you saying RSR will be or the street RS will be. That said a turbo RS would S.U. C. K. IMHO.

Hope the rest is true

Sorry. To be clear I think he meant a stroked 4.1 liter race engine would make 550-575 and the street engine would be detuned to maybe 525(just guessing here).

580bhp w 4.1L and carbon body work. Will be track demon if proven real. At $200K will probably price me out.

The only disappointing report is that the RS might start at $200k. That is a HUGE increase from the prior generation.

Agreed. At that price I'd probably get a Scud!

Sure it is restricted.. but the new one will also be restricted by the same rules...

Yes 2016 there will be a new set of GT-Rules. Maybe they are going to allow more than the current restrictor but that is comparing apples and oranges.

The "street" RS will surely get 500hp. Just because they can't make a car with less power than the RS4.0 of the 997... It will never be somewhere of 580hp...

And a "turbo RS that sucks" is in a crazy machine called 997 GT2 RS, that doesn't really suck, and may also be in the 991 GT2 RS if they decide to build one..

Sure they can. Just because RS 4.0 bubble wrappers are telling you so, doesn't mean it's true.

3. I specifically said turbo. He told me its very possible as it is allowed under the FIA rules and judging worldwide movement towards turbos it certainly will be stressed. He told me they have tested 2 motors. 4.1 liter 580 hp NA and a turbo motor. He obviously wouldn't tell me what the decision would be.
4. The RS will be 200k and loaded with extreme carbon bodywork and bespoke suspension.
If it's turbo:

1. I'm out and 458 Speciale is in.

2. 997 RSs will become unobtanium, regardless of how must faster the new car is.

3. If it's NA and as trick as alluded to, they'll have no problem selling them all day long at $200k. Remember, AP said 4.0 RS was a bargain at $185 and he's been proven correct.

Relax.
The GT3 RS is not going to be a turbo.

Just look at those pictures.. it just can't be a turbo charged car.

....? Because the pictures show side intakes traditionally used for the intercoolers on turbocharged cars...?

It would seem to me that they are testing a turbo and non turbo version just as rosenbergendo reports. They tested a manual and PDK version of the GT3...

Well, a water-cooled NA car needs three kinds of "airs":
1. Cooling for the coolant (water). This is done at the front intakes of the 911s
2. Cooling for the engine compartment. This is normally done on the engine cover of the 911s
3. "Working air" for the combustion. For all 911 besides the RSR this is taken also from the engine covers.

A Turbo-Charged car also needs "extra" air (quite a bit actually..) for the intercoolers. For the 911 Turbos since quite some time this is done from the side-intakes. Yes.

If we assume the RS is based on the regular GT3 (which it probably is..). The GT3 has a quite substantial air scoop on the engine cover to get both engine compartment cooling and air for the combustion.

The RS does hase two tiny slids on the engine cover. In my opinion, this is used for the engine cooling. So where is the "working air" coming from? There is only one additional air intake on that car and these are the side intakes.

If the car would have a turbo... where would the intercooler get the air from (and where would it outlet be?)... or where is the working air coming from?

I'd bet anything that this car is naturally aspirated.
