Problem is very soon a car like yours will become more valuable than a new GT3 with the way things are going and the spec of your particular car!! Infact within a short while I believe my own RS spec 993 will probably make no sense to continue biffing around the track - thing is its fun and I love it but increasingly Im realising I cannot wlak out the door and find another (125 sold new in NZ between 1994-1998 and 35% of them tipo!).

Having seen pics of your 993 (in the link below), if I owned it I would have a tough time bringing that beauty (and beast) to a track to thrash around.

Thanks kindly. She's moved a long long way since those pictures in 2010 (big brake upgrade, Heigo half cage, GT LSD, gearbox rebuild, RS uprights & tie rods, Rennline camber plates and monoballs, Rennline full spherical rear suspension, RS door cars, water bottle etc, fully rebushed light weight wheels etc etc etc) :-) I wasn't joking when I said Id spent more on it than the 991 GT3 :-(

Wonder what costs more to spec out, your 993 or a Singer 911.
Probably irrelevant as sometimes the journey itself is worth the price of admission.

What an awesome machine! To be honest, what you have is probably a better tool in terms of fun-per-$ than any new super-duper car. I have no doubt a new RS would be significantly faster, but a big, heavy, massively fast street car is going to cost a fortune in consumables.

You are correct however. I have owned the 993 for 14 years and its been many things at many different times. Currently its living as a track hack and fast road/targa car but still with all creature comforts and a bespoke CF interior. One day it will become a show pony again, but Id like to install a Rothsport 3.9L on Motec M84 before then and get the power/weight ratio up around 7.2 GT3RS first LOL!
Thanks Grant. Yours is a few steps ahead of mine actually. Love the '73, and you did well buying it from the guy who (like me) poured all that development money into her :-)
I too am anticipating a potential 2016 ED on a future Cayman R or GT4 or whatever it is they are apparently (internet rumour) cooking up in skunkworks. I think with -50kg and an exhaust and remap, some better seats and brake pads/fluid etc would be a great track car and probably coincide well with time to retire the 993.
However the 991 GT3 is getting under my skin more than I anticipated. A single track session saw to that. In the medium term it would be cheaper than running my 993 on track (not consumerables cost (they will be more) but maintenance and replacement parts - G50 6spd gearbox and 22 year old car etc). Afterall it has a track warranty, an extended warranty and a brand new (assumed bullet proof) engine! Plus you cant money shift it, it can overtake slower traffic like its standing still and it has AWSEOME brakes!

Thanks! To be forthcoming, the RS is beyond my means and I'm actually considering the (rumored) Cayman GT4 for Euro Delivery. While I anticipate the price to be roughly 1/2 that of the RS, I hadn't fully appreciated how much the run costs might be (I'm guessing well more than half the RS's). I've been spoiled by the cheap consumables of my 73, but there certainly is something to be said for a track warranty.

I'm a decent amateur driver (with many years of experience), but yes my car is heavily modified:
1,890 pounds with half tank
235hp 2.7RS+ MFI motor
Custom-built (by Hayden at WEVO with all their options) gearbox with close/low ratios, Guard LSD, cooler, etc.
Bilstein RSR Coilovers (replacing torsion bars), 935 rear suspension, Charlie Bars
Brembo 4-piston 930 brakes and two-piece rotors (barely clear 15" wheels)
All Carbon body panels
Makes for a fantastically involving car to drive on road and track - can be driven at huge slip angles with ease.
