Went to test drive a Mercedes today and drove the 992 turbo s to the dealership. Salesman asked me what other cars I had and I mentioned the 991.2 3RS. He told me his former neighbor had one of those, mentioned the first name, I recognized the name, and turns out that it’s my car!

Salesman also told me his dad recently test drove a 991 turbo s, which happens to be a car I recently traded in.

Small world!

thank you for this info - very much appreciated. Do you have a sense for what % above wholesale is reasonable? As it’s not my ideal spec I don’t want to overpay, but could talk myself into it if it was a good deal…

Margin ranges depending on dealership. More importantly what is the retail market and what’s available at the price point comparing this one. They probably would take a couple off for a quick sale but doubt much more.

I just traded my 18 manual in with half the mileage CPO for $180 and the dealer sold it 3 days later for $199.

This has to be the most ludicrous 2021-esque auction this year. Multiple people bid a no option car (no PCCB, FAL, buckets, bose) to over 210k and it went RNM. Not sure who has the better smoke-ables, the seller or the multiple potential buyers. This is not a collectible spec and would literally lose ~$40k in value once driven 5k miles.

Yikes... 51k over and RNM on a winged, low spec, low mile example. Crazy!

No FAL, but paid for deviated stitching. Sofas and a fire extinguisher. The spec on this car is bad. $51k over sticker is straight up nuts.

I get it, the buyer wanted an unmolested new car in a somewhat rare color and they are not making them any more. 991.2 - Last of the analog gauges, etc. These perfect, low milage, brand new undriven examples are rare, and will become even rarer as time goes on and the 50K delta is not a lot of money to get what you want for many people. Personally, I would have wanted PCCB on it, but IMO, no FAL is not a negative to many and actually a plus to some people, as it's lighter and has less components to fail in the future. Sofas is personal, I like the LWBS, but for the right person, they are preferred, so for someone, this could be like going back in time and buying a new 991 GT3 speced the way you like it, in a color you love. If so, that's kind of priceless or at least worth a lot.

No FAL too? I agree it is nuts, but, hey, they're not making any more 991.2 GT3's. I bet we'll see more of these type of prices as less and less low mileage examples exist. See 997 GT3's as a reference.

I'm not motivated by the low mileage, collector spec mindset. But set a cap of 206k on Cars, unfiltered by make and model, and you'll easily identify 100's of buys that are more senseless than that carmine would have been.

Am I the only one to whom the word “spec” has become like nails on a chalkboard?

The problem is, will the buyer drive his unmolested car?

If he doesn't drive it, he doesn't get to enjoy the experience of driving it and is relegated to looking at it and imagining what it would be like to drive it.

If he drives it with any regularity, it will soon enough be a molested car and the big delta he paid will be eradicated from the value of the car.

I agree, that's all very true, but if driven, he will get to enjoy being the one who drives it since new and enjoy making and knowing the history of the car. Depending on usage, it could remain very low miles and virtually brand new for years. But for sure on the value, if it gets used regularly, the value premium will disappear quickly and he will be left with buying the experience of ownership since new, which is nice.
