991.2 GT3 RS to become a future classic ?
#256
The point of the thread was not value or price but whether something was classic - there are many classic cars that don't have a massive price tag associated with them - Cooper S, TR5, TR6, E-type Jag, MG, Lotus 7 (Caterham) to name a few. Personally, I have no interest in price or value, its what you get out of the vehicle experience that matters.

Classic. Fml. Another crap value thread in the 991 forum
You guys should really just take the rs $ and buy stacks of quarters
it would be more fun for you to count them and more fun for us with less value threads
a new hobby maybe
or here’s an idea. A contest.
you buy a 991.2RS and bubble wrap it.
you add up cost of cash, storage, maintained, replacing your bubble every few years, insurance
i take the $ and invest it
20 yrs pass
i will win.
here’s why
i will come out with more $
you didn’t enjoy the car so what’s the fking point?
and you’ll have less cash to show for it
In the meantime I’ll have put over 300k miles on my cars combined
And I’ll have the memories to go with them

I do think that the Touring is going to be worth more than a normal GT3 regardless. We'll see.

Mostly agree, don't kill the messenger but just want to add that people derive enjoyment from their cars in many different ways, so not enjoying the car by keeping it pristine (or showing it) and low miles isn't really a thing. I know people that get much enjoyment out of ownership in driving the wheels off of it and others that get just as much enjoyment by keeping it fresh. To each his own.
Absolutely. It is in peoples' nature to do what suits them. So whether you see someone racking up the track miles, or rubbing their garage queen with a diaper, it is safe to assume that person is doing what makes him happy. One could certainly come up with plenty of exceptions to that rule of thumb, but it's true in general.

LOL. I guess the market has spoken. GT3 RS 4.0s are worth somewhere between 500-750k I guess. I wonder if the buyers think they are classics.
I think the 748k car sold a couple years ago, but this one sold more recently.

For the first time in 2015 the RS (991) is computer aided PDK
that makes this 991 RS not a classic
that makes this 991 RS not a classic

yes I like your discussion of "classic"
and by that, all the cars you mentioned are ****TY. mostly British....
really unreliable.
I mean the only word that keeps coming to mind is ****TY....
BUT, on that rare occasion when the weather is right, roads are empty, and the car actually fired up.... IT'S PURITY AND NIRVANA....
that MOMENT when the driver and the car become one... all the shiftiness and unreliability go out the window...
you know, like stuff in bed.... all the sh*t you do for few min of joy....
if some of the posters here have driven a caterham (sp), a series 1 E-type on the right day on the right road then compared to 991... it will be clear what "classic" means...
997 is not really classic, it's just kind of getting old, but in a good way..

many many others are, to me, more classic than 997/991

Future classic status guaranteed. If you take really good care of your car. It could end up in a museum in a 100 years time. With that in mind. I'm going out to my garage right now to wipe any dust off of it.

I'll add delta Integrale - that was the car that took me on a journey through WRX and EVO - ugly, cheap but also classics. Classics can end up being pricey or equally cheap if they did something different or revolutionised they way people thought about or felt about cars. Plenty of cars in the US fit that bill too.
