Flat 6 Innovations used to have a program called "The Stocker". Basically they built the motors to their standards but at stock power.
But as we all know, they now only have time and resources allocated to building their high-end motors.
Anyways, I saw somewhere on the forum that Jake mentioned a lone stocker motor in inventory and I reached out. I was thrilled when he said I could purchase it for $8500 plus shipping.
Like I said, I probably will never need it, but it's mentality like an extended warranty in the back of my mind.
I wouldn't buy anything that I felt I needed to buy a spare $10k motor for... unless I was so rich $10k felt like $100.
You could easily build a case to simply add the 10K to the initial price and buy a model without the motor problem history.
And skip the worry and prospect of a motor failure altogether = happy motoring
Except in this case, he could sell that engine for 50% more than what he paid. $8500 plus ~500 shipping including the core! I'm not suggesting he sells it but, man, there's a lot of potential profit.
The best thing about that strategy is that it immediately nukes the "worry" that so many have in the back of their mind, which does nothing but steal some measure of the magic of these unique cars.
I took a similar approach and actually acquired a brand new rebuilt motor in a crate. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my current motor but with a guarantee sitting in the barn I can just drive it like I believe it was designed to be driven. It's so intoxicating.
Never would have thought of this, but love the idea. Can you talk to my wife?
I think I'd build a coffee table around it and put it in the man cave until needed. Be a great conversation piece.

i was offered by jake raby (over the phone) a rebuilt 987.1 stock engine for $10,000 about six months ago. he said it was built for someone a number of years ago that wanted a stock one but never picked it up. i decided i really didn't need it, as i was just shopping around in case mine blew up or something, but that hasn't happened, as yet.
Took off the car cover and installed a new battery. Total weight of the Antigravity battery is 12.8 lbs, versus 11.4 lbs the OEM lightweight battery that was replaced. Not bad considering the AG battery is probably 1/4 the cost of an OEM replacement!

Or...... If I wanted I could fetch a roller, or even worse, and then go to cutting. In this case, 700lbs!
It would still be 100% Porsche, but crazy fun.

That one was here for years.. It finally found a new home.
By the way, if I was to sell it to someone it would be because I felt it was going to rescue some fine fella from a broken Porsche heart.
And I would not attempt to profit from it because it wouldn't be my way.
For me personally the only reason that both the car and the spare motor are in my barn are because I feel BOTH were outright bargains that I came across unexpectedly.
Starting to get repair estimates for the paint cracks from that deer encounter last week. Looking for recommendations - my agent works with Mike Savoie in Troy and was ready to schedule a repair, but I would like estimates from decent Porsche body shops from y'all unless there really isn't any difference. Noticed a 2nd crack near 1st one, possible crack in underlaying plastic panel.
Thanks,
Ken Strands of deer hair still attached. 2nd crack
@Sawborg Aplogies, I just caught your question above about my Carplay/Android Auto Upgrade with Front/Rear back-up cameras....The documentation for the kit was really detailed so wholeheartedly endorse the NM Automotive solution https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/carplay-androidauto.
The front and rear cameras I had to figure out myself. The back-camera was fairly easy, just slow going. There is a hole behind the license plate for the tow hook and the camera wire can go through there. I opted for a camera that had a bracket that could attach to the back of the license plate (sandwich between plate and bracket on car. Then ran the wiring forward under all the trim. Not hard, just need to be careful as you work around the trim. The front camera was a little tougher because I didn't want to drill holes the firewall or compromise an existing gasket, so I had to pretty much remove the interior trim in the frunk to run the wiring from the front of the bumper (tucked along the top of the center radiator opening) into the frunk.
I finished up my steering line replacement yesterday and today I swapped out my stock 17" wheels and tires for 18" wheels and tires. Unfortunately it started snowing just before I finished up so I couldn't test them out properly.
Here are the new 18s. The 17s were original stock wheels and were pretty beat up. The 18s were takeoffs from a new 2018 Cayman, wheels and tires in brand new condition. The 18s are an inch wider and are a pretty close fit with the front strut mounts, still not sure if I might not get rubbing on hard cornering.
