If you live in California this may be significant. Scanned from the recall letter...

If you take the car back to New York it should not be an issue unless NY has the same proviso...

Got my recall notice in the mail today. So now I have 3 open recalls on the car.. Plan to get only 2 fixed in mid-January.

For those interested, here's page 1 of the letter..

Sir... Your Porsche is ready for you.... It was just a burned out bulb in the glove box... We replaced it and all is fine now...

Oh...... and we noticed Porsche issued a recall for emissions on your particular Cayman. We took the liberty of fixing that for you at no charge to you...

Have a nice day.....

Yeah, I will make a point when I drop it off to let them know to NOT perform that recall.. I have a good relationship with the SA at the dealer, so I feel pretty good about that..

Bear in mind that the word 'voluntary' in the recall title probably means that PCNA is voluntarily performing this recall, as opposed to being mandated by DOT/EPA. It does not mean that PCNA considers this to be an 'optional' item.

It is quite possible that the dealers have been instructed to perform this update on any applicable cars that are brought in for service of any kind. Considering the fines and penalties involved in recent emissions cheats and lapses, it would be wise for PCNA to do everything it can to get as many of the affected cars done as possible.

The stop sale order shows how serious PCNA considers this issue. So I wouldn't be surprised if the dealers are being pressured to get these done.

If so, they've got many 981 owners over a barrel. What if they won't do the rear suspension carrier recall unless all other outstanding recalls are addressed at the same time?

So would the COBB Access port be a way to preserve the factory Sport + functions back to the original settings?

I'm concerned about my Cayman S being neutered after a routine service with the dealer.

I have PDK and don't have the PDK tune, so would be SOL. Since this is emission related, I assume Cobb will probably soon revise their PDK tune accordingly like they've done with their ECU tunes so they can be CA emission compliant. If you do have their PDK tune, make sure not to update your AccessPort if you like what you have.

I received the same letter and thought it interesting that it said and I quote "This software update .. has no impact on fuel consumption values for your vehicle, drivability, performance or safety."

This seems contradictory to what others are saying that have had this update done.

Thing is, without fitting a physically filter, how do you reduce emissions without lowering peak rpm or the amount of fuel being burned at any given rpm? Either will reduce max hp

that would makes sense. Max HP is @ 7400rpm which is redline. You lower the rpm which is what the update is supposed to do, you lower the HP.
