I may have to make sweatshirts for winter...it's going to be cold out in the shop.

Teardown begins. Suspension madness...
I had all the aluminium suspension components etc blasted & then painted with a 2 pak matt clear. Doing them with a gloss would have made them too shiny for the look i was after.
The front lower arms are from a 993. I used these to help accommodate the 993 RS / GT2 uprights. The axle height is 15 mm lower than the 964 helping to eliminate bump steer. Plus the radial mount for the Turbo caliper instead of using an adaptor. All the suspension bushes are from Elephant Racing, with RS bushes on the front. Unfortunately there wasn't a firm option for the rear at the time. Kicking myself now.
The engine going back in.
It took me 3 days to polish the rear muffler. Starting with 600 w&d working my way to 1200. Then finish polishing with Autosol. I did this with all the stainless & it took me close to 5 weeks to get it all done.
Started the project on the 13th September 2015.
Getting close now. Here it is in September 2016. Wow it's been off the road for almost 12 months. Still have more to do yet.

What's the verdict on the transmission inserts? I am considering these as I would like to make my gear engagement more predictable. Do these keep the transmission stable under load for precise shifts?
It's so nice to finally be doing this stuff to my car. Darren's car is still out for upholstery...so I have some time...but trying the step up the pace. I haven't even begin to start cleaning the suspension parts and getting them ready for bearings and bushings yet...soon the soda blaster will come out. Maybe tomorrow. Let's see if the neighbor's are around. Gets a bit messy with the soda.
In the meantime, I installed the function first transmission stiffener and a new transmission mount. I didn't do the transmission mount when I had the motor out for rebuild and I always questioned not doing that. But the shop that pulled the motor said something "shop like" at the time..."those things never go bad"...which is bunk. And mine worked. But the bushing was shot after 25 years. One thing about rubber. 25 years of tempurature extremes, it doesn't stay happy. And therapy does it no good. So out with the old and in with the new.
I also wanted to try the ffirst stiffener. They say it goes right in, and there is actually a C4 version for my car. I've had it for a while, and now was the time. And then I found out it needs modification to fit properly. You don't want to bend the alluminum tabs when you put the bushing in, those tabs are cast and will crack. So it went to the bench grinder and I shaved it till both sides fit easily in the bracket, and now it's free to stiffen without causing damage. No idea if it's going to cause too much nvh...more on that in a few weeks when the car is on the road.

And we have pop-out 60s rear windows...
This is not for those of you that are close to heart attack, or if you suffer stress in any way over your car....it's very difficult and comes with compromise...
But it's REALLY cool. And a huge difference while driving.

Sweet work on the windows Rob.
Our other work paid off. The Lobster Rocket won an award at a local car show today. It's badass stance and gorgeous interior won the day. Thanks for everything.

First trophy for the creative brilliance that is Rob.
Secondly, my hat is off to the whole package Mike put together out of a Lobster trap he found and the patience to put it together with Rob.
Lots has been learned over the last year and we all have been thrilled with the amazing outcomes. The interiors are uniquely suited to this era of 964's.

Mike, It does my heart good to see you have been such a good steward of the Lobster Rocket.......my first 964! With Rob handy, you guys have much better resources than I, and brass ***** they way you guys just go after things. Congrats on the trophy, much deserved!
Rob, those pop out windows are badass. I'd love to dig into a project like that......refer back to the brass ***** comment above. Mine are not brass......

If you happen to be driving down through here, stop and see them while I still have the car for a week or so...but hurry, cuz you don't want to miss this one. It's that awesome...

I saw the popout windows in person today - they look like they could have been a Porsche factory option. It's clear that a huge amount of work went in to make it look like absolutely no work was done at all.

And she got her dbfd badge....if you guys keep letting me correct your cars, I'm going to have to do another badge run...and now that the leh keen safari SC and the 3.2 carrera are coming, I'll maybe have to do a 911 version of the badge too...
