That's how they ordered them back then so that's what's on the market today, that's why there is a market premium for other colours.

Those were the majority of the stock dealer colors? Makes sense. Does seem to be a tone of red and whites, more so then black

I can find descriptions wrong in more than 1/2 the ads.

I agree the headliners were a triple option in an ad and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention. But you have to agree that ads these days are nothing close to perfect.
I agree. The majority of the old school enthusiasts that purchased these cars new and have been around forever have become the minority lately. Comprehending why things are the way they are always reads differently to those who lived through it vs those learning about it in a condensed history lesson.

It is my understanding and was explained to me by people that sold these cars back in the day that Porsche offered a series of stock non metallic colors which could be ordered by the dealership. Most of the colors were standard black, red, white etc. There were some colors like signal or mint green that the dealership was afraid to take a chance on so they stayed away from ordering them and trying to pick out a color from a 2" square piece of painted paper in a brochure was of no help. The factory also offered a series of metallic colors. These were "special order" colors and although there was no additional charge the dealership was required to have a signed order and deposit from a customer to order these colors. So the dealers played it safe and ordered or were delivered colors that the factory assumed would sell. That is why you don't see mint green or cobalt blue too often. More of the C2/C4's were ordered than the turbos and the cars are out there but most who own them don't part with them and there are probably 5 or more black, red or white cars to every special order or jelly bean color.

Interestingly I know of a signal green 964 that sat for 2 years at a local dealership after the introduction of the 993 because nobody wanted it because of the color. Sadly the car eventually sold for very little and the car is now a rarity and highly desirable. Who knew back then?

I take affront to red not being discussed as 'a jelly bean color'.

...Besides, *I* call such beauties (as mine) 'the M&M colors'.
(Vending machine M&Ms don't contain black or white nuggets, but plenty of red, blue, green, yellow, orange, and, ahem, brown -- you know, M&M colors!)

Cool

I am going to start calling my color " Viagra Blue " LOL !

And when I bought it 2 1/2 years ago, it sat on Craigslist for months with no buyers. How things change...

Thanks for the info Cobalt. Always good to hear the history of Porsche and how things have worked over the years. Too bad I wasn't around for that signal green 964 you were talking about as I would love to drive that around for the rest of my life. Cheers.

Keep seeing this one for sale. No knowledge myself, but for some reason it hasn't moved.
