I know we are beating a dead horse and there are many horror stories out there, but I want to chime in. I bought a 92 Carrera Cup race car from someone that had imported into the USA. I am assuming to flip. I did my due diligence on the car and found several issues. I knew that going in, as it was a used race car, I assumed it had been banged up a little and needed TLC. I negotiated the price accordingly. The seller was oblivious and had no clue, he was also not a Porsche guy. He stated the car as a pristine example with race history.

The take away, do your home work. If possible, have someone check out the car that is qualified to spot potential problems. In today's market, there so many cars that are over priced and still have many expensive issues & stories. In my opinion, if a car is a super deal it has issues, period..

Ahh the 80's..... Great decade for me personally but that's a different story.... I recall some importers dismantling cars and bringing them in piece meal for reassembly. Paint work in those days was pretty dodgy too.

Crockett and Tubbs where are you?

On the subject of 964’s for sale, I did a quick search last night to see what was available with less than 100k miles and there really is very little available right now. Considering we are going into the winter and it’s usually a slower time of the year you would think more inventory would be available? Lots of what is available comes from sketchy dealers and or is priced at the high end of the market, everything else is gone. Maybe I’m not looking in the right places?

It took me a trip to Europe with my Mechanic to realize just how FD up most of these cars are. We looked at over 15 so called wonderful cars. We found 2 that we're as described and I bought them both. This was 10 years ago when the 964 RS was $80k and the 993 RS was $180k. Fast forward to today's values.....More motivation to put lipstick on a pig.

$200k will never buy you a no stories RS coming out of Europe period. Especially in a rare color. Don't believe me take a couple weeks out of your life and go check it out for yourself.
Great Story. Do you still have them?

No the economy and divorce took them all.

Collection is slowly building back up. 964RS and a 997 RS and a few others.

Wish the price of entry was at 2005 $$$ ha.

I'm sure you already know Drew is putting his 92 C2 up for sale.
But anyone else who is interested, 911cooled on instagram is selling a white 92 C2.
