Since you're in Alberta, I recommend looking into a product called "B-Quiet" for sound deadening. https://www.b-quiet.com/

It's very similar to dynamat but a good amount cheaper, and locally made! I've used it before and have had excellent results.

I've been looking at different products for interior insulation. Peel 'n Stick, Dynamat, Damplifier, Hushmat as well as B-Quiet. They are all made of similar bitumen compound but differ in thickness and sometimes foil color. I haven't ordered one yet, but Im considering using several different thicknesses to even out some metal perforations.

Update: Prep for paint. Trim of the car.

Do I need to separate the bumper beam from the cover when painting? Drill the rivets and split the cover in 3?

Thanks!

If you repaint in the same color, you can get away without separating. If you change colors, then it will look bad unless you separate.

A paint job is only as ever good as the prep put in. Considering the small amount of effort to split it, I'd do so. Get it apart and all cleaned up.

Engine re-build time!

I've looked through several re-build and upgrade threads. 3.6, 3.8, varioram, turbo, supercharger, etc... and decided:

My goal is to re-build the engine with most OEM parts and without excess. I wanted to do the work myself with help from literature and rebuild DVDs like one advertised here a while ago. I want to spend bulk of the money on suspension and steering components as historically these allowed me to go fast around track.

That said, I still want to improve upon the engine in most cost effective way: Chip, clutch + flywheel, exhaust, intake...

What else?

Thanks!
Andrew

FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU!

Didn't move much on the engine drop... one bolt all day

Inner CV bolt stripped. Poor access required drilling, grinding and finally cutting (twice - as the shaft wouldn't slip over long bolt once I cut the head).

- 9 drill bits
- 2 cutting wheels
- 1 straight bit
- 1 grinder

Im hoping tomorrow will go better.

BTW: when dropped the oil from fender tank - first 30ml came out looking like fuel/water. Any clues as what's the reason?

Thanks!
Andrew

Sorry to hear about the frustrating bolt issue. I seem to always have the same issue - one bolt or screw that takes forever to remove. My issue on my engine drop was the lateral slave cylinder. Took me hours to get it out even though it should have taken 5 min to remove.

Mine lots of times has the water looking stuff when changing oil. I live where it stays very humid and I believe it is condensation and just not a lot of long trips just before oil change.

Sounds like my day, but not under the car. Most of my time was spent installing the 2 rubber boots on my new spring plates!

What rob said. Always split the bumper sections as over time the lacquer will lift in the joins and peel

Yes, already did. Going that route I should probably remove the headliner and sunroof too, right? Im bit worried I will destroy the headliner in the process, it looks bit fragile. Any tips on how to do it in a way it is still re-useable after?

BTW: Im considering putting in the front air intakes and blending them with the bumper. I found these closeup references but none that had them blended in with the bumper.

Non painted looks odd.

A bit better, but it still bothers me there can be uneven gaps.

If anyone has successfully blended them in with the bumper, I would love to know the method and see a closeup of it.

Thanks!
Andrew

Take the sunroof and runners out but you can leave the roof liner in. Just release it at the edges.

Ive seen this a few times, think its just extreme moisture build up in the oil/tank. Make sure you give the tank a good flush as i suspect its full of moisture mayo.

Oil was sitting in the tank for the past 6 months so it is definitely possible.
