Finished this today... Looks OK'ish. Needs edge paint/weld. Key hides inside completely with minimal room to spare. Next one will look better. Will try different shapes too.

Update #1 - !!!Insurance is now resolved!!! - Car goes for paint soon ))
Update #2 - Scored AMAZING DEAL on whale tail!
Update #3 - I was thinking about swapping the engine while I re-build the leaky one. Obviously don't want to do any extensive irreversible harness work. What would be required to swap in a 91 engine in place of the 89?

Been watching some interior-resto threads and I'm kinda wanting a lightweight carpet now. Weight is a concern and my initial plan to just roll on ceramic coat on the interior is still in progress. Having the heat barrier in the form of ceramic coat I thought of just filling in the gaps and smoothing out here and there before putting in the lightweight carpet.
Here are some samples of bitumen insulation I was able to find. Don't know which one to choose. Anyone with experience please chine in...

I've added Hy-Tech Ceramic Paint Additive (vacuum filled ceramic spheres) to paint and recorded very good drops in temperature.
If you want the best sound deadening use Dynamat Extreme, I've used this on the McLaren F1 road car.
A combination of the two should give you the lightest insulation and sound deadening you can buy.

Update: Interior ceramic coat and seal applied. Interior harness re-done. New lightweight carpet and RS door cards ordered. Exterior trim off the car in 1week. Engine drop in 2 weeks. Full re-paint in 3 weeks.
Crappy cellphone pics below. In daylight it looks way better, very clean... Im quite happy with the interior resto so far.
Thanks!

Andrew,
Looks like you have done a really good job, but what is the purpose of the ceramic coat, I think I read earlier in your thread about heat deflection?
Also, for the bitumen sound deadening material someone on here started a great thread on how they did theirs and what the used. It had a silver finish and looked like something from the NASA space programme.

The ceramic is there to cut down on heat. It is only in the rear of the vehicle. Originally I wanted to go without a carpet but seeing so many great interior transformations I decided to put a lightweight carpet in.

I've been in a 964 with out carpet, but if you are going to use it for road trips at normal driving speeds, you'll need ear plugs or something and I found that in a highly tuned road car that it tired me out on long drives. it's fine maybe for track days and other similar events, but not long road use.
Have you seen the thread where they guy used Silver backed deadening material?
