so 11 days to go...just going through my to do list.....

what (if anything) is everyone doing re: insurance at Spa. Do most just go with no insurance and wing it? Classicline quoted me £150 for the day with a 20% excess (of cars value)......reis (recommended by jonny at BAT) quoted £200 with 10% excess .............pondering what to do...

apart from that got my european driving kit.....need to find my insurance certificate..sort some euro breakdown cover ........etc etc

how is everyone else travelling?

Wow that's good value, I've been quoted just over £400 for both days....by Competition Car Insurance with excess of £2500.......after seeing the state of the GT2 that crashed on the RS day I'm gonna have some cover in place!

Andrew what are you doing about Ring insurance? As I understand it they don't cover third party - only cover damage to your car not others or the ring.

I didn't make it to Oulton in the end, but was at 9M at the end of the day when a 996GT2 was brought back. I understand he'd gone off on oil early in the morning.

The front was a right mess and probably looked a lot worse than it was, but I'd have thought it'd cost a fair few quid to rebuild (min £20k+) in parts and labour.

You may well find that even your own car isn't covered as many UK insurance Co's now consider the Ring to be a racetrack (unless it's a closed event/organised trackday) when it's a 'tourist' day.

Classicline didn't use to do trackday cover, but thanks to BigUnit's tipoff, I called them and have got both days for £150, but my excess has gone up to £4k!

How did you manage that! I called them up and they said they only do track day insurance for their road insurance policy holders... or are you with them?

PS. Your car sounds absolutely sorted post 9m!

you guess correctly, I'm with them for both cars....but even then it's a referral job!

Somehow (i.e. pay us more money) I passed!

For the price of a 'reasonably priced car' the car should be sorted.....and 9M now able to afford their Xmas party !!!!!

Can't wait to see your car, the pics you've been posting, and all the mods you've had made will doubtless make it even more stunning than it already is.

Sounds like we got ourselves a convoy!!!!

I've had a look at the types of cars that are booked and I'm not so worried about the GTR (a few laps and he'll be in to cool down!) or the GT3's .....it's the 2 Radicals that worry me...they'll come out of nowhere....especially when you're trying to navigate from Pouhon to Blanchimont .... be like looking out for bikers at the Ring!

Boxsey - 3 nights
Freedman - 3 nights
BU - 3 nights
Cheeksyboy - 3 nights
AlexJ - 3 nights
Porsche964FP - 3 nights
Araf +1 - 2 nights
Liam - 2 nights

Directions:
It should be around 240 miles to the hotel. The main route will be E40 (also A16 in France) to Ostend, Gent, Brussels, Liege, and heads for Aachen, where we split onto the E42 to Verviers, Spa and Luxembourg. Past Spa, come off at J12 for Ligneuville. Follow the signs for Ligneuville, and the hotel is about 4 miles from the motorway, in the centre of the village, just before the bridge.

Nurburgring.
Useful information about the ring: http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

Recommended route from hotel to Ring:
For those going to the Nurburgring on the Sunday, the following is a pleasant route, that we have often used from the hotel in the past. I warn you though, I did get nicked once for doing 160kph on the country roads, so keep your eyes peeled.

From the front of the hotel, turn and head up the N62 to the T Junction. Turn Right (N632) for Waimes, Butgenbach, Bullingen, and follow the road until you come to Losheimergraben. Turn left here and follow the sweeping road through the forest towards Hellenthal (265). You cross the border into Germany on this road, as you will note by the massive improvement in the road surface. There are also some lovely, sweeping downhill bends. Carry on along the 265 until you reach Schleiden. At the main traffic lights in town, turn right onto the 258 towards Blankenheim. Stay on the 258, which joins the 51, and then alternates between 2 and 3 lanes (total) so that trucks can be overtaken. (it was just before the 51 that I got nicked) There's a junction at the top of one hill (at Blankenheim), with a big Aral petrol garage. Turn right here. The garage used to sell 100 octane fuel, I don't know if they still do. Now you are back on the 258, and you can follow it all the way to the 'ring.

Spa.
Noise limit: 107db.

Ian has suggested that we take a comfort/refueling break just after Leuven on the E40 where there's a Texaco garage. It should take a bit over 2 hours to get that far. We can get a coffee in the garage and wait for any stragglers to catch up, before we have the last 90 minute run to the hotel. It will be best to start off with a full tank to ensure you get that far with no issues.

BTW I think there will be about half a dozen VXR/monaros with us.
