964 Prices

Need opinion on a 964 price.
1990 C4 5 speed in Polar Silver over Dove Grey (raff) std seats. Original paint excepting hood. Books, Records and enthusiast owned its entire life. 93,000 miles. (I owned it from 56k - 73k)
Only modifications are lowered, ugly but factory chrome wheels, aftermarket stereo.
A few known defects like broken slats in the deckled. sunroof wind protector does not retract when closing, little stuff.
Otherwise just needing tires because they are dated and a 90k service.
Fast cash deal price? What should I pay?

Side bar: I love how so many commenters on BaT think that just because values are high we all made money on these cars. But cars are not like artwork that just sit on the wall and only need a dusting and yet can increase in value. Insurance, taxes, running costs, maintenance/repairs, added garage space, tools etc. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who ACTUALLY made money as a proper investment on their car over the years.

Six figures for a Singer donor. That's going to thin the heard more. Ugh.

This one will be interesting to watch: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ra-4-coupe-12/
'90 C4 with PTS green and cashmere sport seats, but the front fender and door have been repainted (hmm).

Part of the reason I won't sell mine. Don't want it chopped up.

Don't forget about accident loss. A friend just had an off road excursion so one less for the rest. Thankfully The sturdiness of these cars protected him.
There is so much going on with that PTS green car. The only thing it has going for it is the color. Assuming it is correct. No doubt the entire car has been repainted. The right rear fender has been repalced. possibly both. The right rear doesn't line up properly and it has bad gaps. It is the perfect example for a thread on what to look out for when buying a 964. Also why paint meter readings mean little if you don't know what to look for. If I can see paint lines around seals in pictures it must be worse in person. The tub shows obvious signs of damage. the rails where they pinch weld the panels together in the rear wheel wells are misshapen. They are flattened and curvy when normally straight. Looks as though they purposely left the oil return pipe hanging so it covers up the damage.
This is not a 6 figure car. It has potential. But for it to bring big money but the rear quarter needs to be fixed properly. The tub repaired where needed and countless things addressed.
These are the cars I wish I could find and I would spend the time to fix properly. It is sad that this seller not only will push for more but did what they did to cover up the accident damage and try to sell this as something it isn't. Not a chance that the paintwork is older than a year or less.
You can see how the factory welded the panels together just above the springs down to the control arm and towards the back.
As it should look.
Something clearly damaged the underside you can see the rail is bent
Same on this side not to mention the lack of hardware holding the important oil return tube in. place.

Is it me, so is the font incorrect on the caliper on the left rear? And why is does it look like undercoating all over the trailing arms?

Similar thing, look at the upper left part of the photo. I see this on a lot of BaT cars. These are mistreated cars for the most part someone has painted and fixed just enough to get someone to overpay for them.

Anthony- That's a keen eye you have. While I was not a buyer on the PTS Green 964 I didnt notice the fact the oil tube lines were not connected. Maybe it was the horrible spray job on the rotors hats that were distracting me. A proper inspection is so necessary when these cars are now mostly in 6 figure territory.

One poster and bidder in the Speedway Green BaT comment section “Professorv” brought up some interesting history.
It looks like Pelican user “klober23” bought the car in May 2006 (see this thread). He subsequently posted cylinders for sale (thread link) when doing a 3.8 project, a complete exhaust (thread link) and a green decklid (thread link). So it looks like the engine and other parts are possibly not numbers matching / original to the car.
