Rob, there's flexibility to use a variety of clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and throw out bearings, but here's a potential setup that I think I'll be going with:
- Single mass flywheel made for the 07K: https://www.fourseasontuning.com/252...etle-w-25.html
- SPEC Stage 3+ pressure plate made for the 07K
- SPEC Stage 3+ clutch disk made for the 944 NA
- Hydraulic throw out bearing from GM LS1

...or, how far off is a regular 944 bellhousing from some holes on the vw engine
Yes, I've thought about ordering one but I believe they are too deep, you'd have to have a torque tube extension to make it work.

I am in for a bellhousing.
I bet Issam Abed would also be in one, he's been working some development himself. I can direct group buy info his way.

Awesome, thanks Alex! So with Rob Stevens and I, that would make 4 total. Any other takers?

That escalated quickly. I don't even have a 944. May have to sell the 996 ls3 swap.

Alex I'm just north of you. May need to to peruse craigslist for a nice turbo....

Does the 1.8T use the same BH pattern at the I5?
a lot of interest lately around the web for 944 1.8 swaps, especially since MWR only builds wall posters.
if viable i think youd get a lot more than 5 orders.

Wall posters? Is no one racing them? I love what Motor Werks is doing, but I hope their customers are putting the products to good use!

I think Alex previously stated that the 07K and 1.8T share a few bellhousing hole locations. But, no it's not the same bellhousing pattern

*EDIT* see Alex's post below... looks like an 07K bellhousing will work for the 1.8T, but not necessarily the other way around due to the 07K cam chain housing. In any case, it looks like this is a good idea to advertise to the 944 1.8T / MWR crowd, so thanks!

1.8T is the same as 07K (but different from the earlier I5's), so a bellhousing that works for the 07K would work for the 1.8T
The unique issue with the 07K from the 1.8T is the cam chain housing on the back of the 07K, this causes interference with regular longitudinal Audi dual-patter bellhousings (found on the 01A/01E; they have both 4cyl/07k and early I5 patterns on them). You have to trim the top two bolts off the the standard bellhousing to clear the 07K.
Since the 1.8T doesn't have the cam chain housing on the back of the motor, a simple adapter plate to the 944 bellhousing works fine (that's how MWR and many others have done it; cheaper solution than a full bellhousing). The 944 bellhousing interferes with the cam chain housing on the 07K, thus the need for a full replacement bellhousing.
In other words, I don't think 1.8T swappers will want to spend the extra money on a full bellhousing when they could design an adapter plate for a fraction of the price.

Another idea is to trim part of the 944 bellhousing to clear the 07K cam chain housing and then make an adapter plate...but you'd lose at least one of the 944 mounting bolts and there aren't many more left.

I would absolutely order a bellhousing along with you guys!!!

Couple other things:

Follow Jim Green on Facebook for 07k stuff. He's posting some good updates on upgrades with his 07k powered Audi 90. He's currently swapping in TT-RS cams and adding VVT to the exhaust cam (since non-turbo 07K only has it on the intake).
Facebook Post

It would be nice to engineer the bellhousing to not require modification like the 01A/01E bellhousings do (basically removal of the very top two bolts).
Modded:

Not-modded:

Timing cover modification if running the Audi starter location:

Alex, I will design the new bellhousing without the upper portion that interferes with the cam gear housing. Also, no timing cover modifications will be necessary since I will put the starter in a totally different location (similar to original 944 starter location).

Fantastic, that gives us 5 total. I'll also try to get in touch with some 1.8T swap guys and see if there is interest. I'll reach out to MWR, of course, but if anyone has any other contacts, please forward to me.

Wouldn't it be possible to just reuse the 944 TOB?
Also, isn't the stock 944 Clutch disk usually much smaller than the 07k's?

I'm sure it's possible to use the 944 TOB, but I would prefer to eliminate the need for a clutch fork (less complexity and fewer parts to break)

944 disk is 225 mm
07K disk is 9" or 228 mm

MWR co-owner called me back yesterday. Very nice conversation, but they feel they are in good shape with their existing bellhousing design. I'll plug ahead with Quick Time for the 07K application, but if anyone finds any non-MWR 1.8T swap in progress, let me know.
