I have a small stereo Olympus mic I bought through Amazon based on a recommendation I got here. I'll dig up that link when I get to the office. But I wound up mounting it behind the rear bumper just above the muffler.

I tried a couple places (under the hood taped to the MAF pipe, and in the hatch in the cubby behind the wheel well) and I liked this one the best, I liked the raspiness.

Although the video is awesome Sadly, the audio sucks on this camera, PERIOD!
I have an older Go Pro (like 2 yrs ago model) Hero HD Pro . There is no audio mic jack to plug into. The newer ones allow you to use an aux mic ..
There was a video on you tube, that shows how to hot wire a mic but you will loose the water proofing .. I added the link below.
I have tried the non water proof case, that was supplied with the camera, but the sound still sucks with that case on ..(unless you mount it in the cabin) If mounted outside, as soon as you reach 30 mph, the sound is worthless ....
I mounted mine for this test run with the suction cup on the front bumper with a safety string tethered to the tow hook ...
Although, I think the best mount would be the Redline licence plate mount that uses the tow hook.
I kinda like the view from this angle
Regards
Ed
ps
Here is a video of how to change your older gen HD Go Pro if ya want to go that way

Thanks Eddy! I have a GoPro Hero 2 that has a 3.5mm mic jack. The mic jack is not powered however. I also had to drill a hole in a case to accommodate the jack which makes it no longer waterproof. I bought a powered mic with a 20 ft cord for $29 at MicroCentre. Mic is mounted outside the car right above the exhaust outlet. Ran the cord through the cabin and out the hatch. Overall, I think the audio is not bad with this setup.
