The miles seem to be hurting it. The big money guys who swoop in and drive the 928 prices sky high look for either the low mileage examples or the very well restored examples. This fits neither, even though it is a most desirable 89 GT. It also just looks tired, even though it probably runs great. Those bidding are the ones who like a deal on a good example, but aren't going to pay a premium either. My guess is RNM on it, which is too bad.

Agreed. Assuming it can be had on the low spectrum of GT sales (especially 89 GTs), you’d think that someone would pick this up not just as an investment but to drive it and enjoy it. If I were looking for one of the most collectible 928s, I’d seriously be looking at this one.

Agreed, It went for $35k and I consider that to be a good deal for a car that would be one heck of a fun driver! Plus it is a collectable car for the long haul.

When it comes to collectable cars I may be a bad human. I'm MoonRunner on BaT, and I bought the GT. I may be a bad human because I believe cars should be driven to be enjoyed. This GT with more than 100k miles was just what I wanted. I'll let you know if it's a fun driver. One thing that there is no lack of in WNC is fun roads! I'm enjoying my '14 981 S right now, but I'm really looking forward to the Shark.

Congratulations! I think most here will say you are a good human for wanting to drive these cars. 100k miles for these is nothing if well maintained. You have bought a highly desirable iteration and year 928 that will only appreciate in value, even as you drive it as intended. The 928 is a rare collectible in that is extremely satisfying to drive and to maintain. Enjoy!

Thank you! You cannot imagine what a leap this 928 is compared to my first one. I bought that one (a 1980) in 1993 for $500. The engine knocked at idle but not, oddly enough, under power. The interior had been removed and some parts were just missing. The PO discovered that rebuilding the engine wasn't going to be a cheap, so he dumped it. I drove it about a mile to my home while sitting on milk crate. I more or less put it back together and it became my hoon mobile for a couple of years. You have to remember how little 928's were regarded back then. In 1993, a tired 928 wasn't worth much. Still, it had enough magic to get me here today. So thus far I've has a 928, a 930, a 981S, and now I've returned to the 928. And no, it will not be my new hoon mobile. I'm a custodian now...

Fantastic and Wellcome aboard!

We can't wait to hear what you will do with this car and look forward to you starting a thread celebrating all the fun you have with it. I have three GT's with @150k on them and love driving them as Porsche intended! GT's are exceptional drivers cars!

Yes I also have some startlingly low miles cars, but those fulfill an entirely different purpose!

Enjoy!

Congrats on the win. Drive it like you stole it My 89GT has 340XXX km (around 210K miles) on it and it's running great as always. The GT's (especially the 89) are unique and drive/feel like no other 928. One of 115ish in NA. Cool, rare, and a total blast to carve the roads!

Enjoy the ride.

congratulations and welcome! I was following that auction closely (I am responsible for a 91GT with similar miles, sketchier history) and glad to see you here in this corner of RL - this forum is the best model-specific community I’ve ever encountered.

Your car is, as folks said, a highly desirable iteration. Looking forward to reading about your experiences with it!

+1 to all the welcomes above. Unfortunately I will not be at SITM this year but my daughter is starting school in Tennessee this fall, so I will have a built-in excuse to attend in the future!

Congrats, will you bring it to Sharks in the Mountains in May? I bought a high mile S2 JUST SO I DID NOT HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT DRIVING IT

Bummer.

If it's college she'll probably be out 3-4 weeks or so before SITM takes place, but hope it works out.

Yes! I registered for SITM about 15 minutes after I won the auction. It's only 2.5 hours away, and just to good to miss!

Its a great event and lots of fun people attend!

When do you pick it up? As I recall it was from your part of the country?

FWIW, I'll be at SITM as well - but with a longer drive!
