It’s been a couple years since I sold off my last 928, and I’m ready to get into another. However I’m looking for a very specific car from my families past. My grandfather bought a Moss Green over tan 86 928 new from Isringhausen in Springfield, IL from where I’m from. I don’t have a vin but I know it was an automatic. If anyone has knowledge of an 86 Moss Green spec car I’m interested. Doesn’t have to be the “car” god knows if it still exists but a same spec is ideal. He recently passed and we want that car in our garage again. Thanks
I think I'm seeing a square rear jack point along the bottom of the sill, which would make this an 86.5? Any idea whether your Grandfather's was an 86.5? I know it's a longshot.
Just saw this earlier today. Great spec with it being a manual. If it was tan leather I would already be on the phone
Lots of opinion and car seeker detective conclusions here ...
That green 83 has been around for awhile because while it has interesting options and color it is over priced (opinion) vs Hagerty price guides/market. The hard brake lines show interesting corrosion and my guess is the car was stored near the sea. If you look at the underside the driveshafts and other parts show corrosion I've not seen on higher mileage cars, except a certain S4 owned near the Gulf of Mexico. There are also several visible paint blemish marks. Then, when I called about it I learned the transmission is shot indicating abuse or much higher mileage than reported. The driver's seat is also collapsing along the edge which youtube videos indicate is a sign of higher mileage, 100k +. The seat thing could be missread but the combined signals turned me off. The seller says they have records but limited/no evidence provided. The records may exist but not scanned or provided as I did not show up to look at this one. The seller says the car is customer owned but the customer at the time I'd called had not decided to repair the transmission or lower the price.
As a real positive I liked the selling dealer rep, Norbert, he seemed honest. He has to go off the information he has for the car and his Long Island location drives a certain level of expense/local market bias. If I didn't have to fly across the country to view it I probably would have shown up and negotiated. I've since changed the features I am looking for which removed this car from my list.
Aventura always has stratospheric pricing. It only take a few $175k Pagoda SL sales to make a week -- and there are plenty of customers on the East End willing to pay the ask to "make it easy."
The turn signal location and the turn signal itself is like nothing I've ever seen on a 928.

Definitely aftermarket turn signal repeaters. Being a very early Euro, factory turn signal repeaters were absent. Some European jurisdictions (this car is in Italy) required side mounted turn signal repeaters at some point in time, and these may have been installed for compliance (not unlike Euro cars here being federalized with aftermarket side markers for US compliance). Or an owner just wanted them for safety reasons or to "update" the car.
This car looks well used for under 50k miles, but age more than miles may have taken its toll. It looks like the front bumper bar mounts might be collapsed (turn signal/driving lights look recessed a bit more than they should be). Yes, the spoilers should come off - at least the side quarter window trim remains original for a non-spoiler car. Super desirable low VIN car.
