Default 79 Euro Manual Sunroof Delete

On Facebook Marketplace in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. $9000.

Says 100k miles, but speedo isn't operable, so TMU. Of note are that it's complete, new fuel components, it's a runner, and it was originally "opal metallic blue"? I wonder if that means Minerva.

The bad that I can see right away: mismatched upholstery front to back (and new front leather isn't fitted well); it's a got a wrap over a bad black respray; looks like some electrical gremlins.

Looks like he dropped the price to $10,400 on his website on the project Risky Business car. That is a steal of a deal for everything he has done to this car. I watched several of his videos which helped me learn how to do some things on mine, like the Porkin tensioner. Surprising that it hasn't sold yet.

Possible VIN swapped 1978 continental orange on BAT... was born red, now orange, with Euro S engine.

reported as VIN 9288100564... but I've NEVER seen a vin stamped in the bottom of the spare well. Also absent its Euro vin plate located at the hood latch. Wonder what is stamped in the right front bulkhead? Surprised (not surprised?) BAT missed this.

"Creative refurbishment" to say the least.

Cross posted in the CS thread:
Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the for sale thread, but the Broad Arrow Forest Green metallic over tan 89 CS reached a $232,500 bid, but did not sell. It is now on offer for $250,000. TNote - this is a 120000 KM car that suffered a rear end collision, and it still exceeded $200K ! Dayum!!

RE: that Orange '78 on BAT, I have never seen a spare tire well VIN stamping either. And it's weird there's only one hole in the cowl surface behind the hood latch, Euro VIN tags (of course) are held on with 2 rivets. 9288100564 was originally a non-AC no-sunroof 5-speed without LSD in Guards Red. The only option code is 568 - Bronze tint glass. Production # 629 so it should have been all early -78 stuff- narrow louvers, rosette locks, chrome locks, etc.

All that said, the chassis is certainly an early '78 given the battery box, steel wheelwell liners and the early bolt-thru front lower control arms, and the VIN matches the original color on the build sheet. And the front body harness has none of the AC connectors, for whatever that's worth.

Best (?) case: Red #00564 was front clipped with a US doner (considering the missing rivet hole) with the vin chiseled out of the wrecked front right bulkhead then moved to the rear. That's literally the only place in the world that particular VIN with the Porsche symbol was ever stamped into a piece of sheet metal.

Why wouldn't they put it back where it belongs? in the right bulkhead?

Or, another red 78 chassis was used. I find it hard to believe this will make it for seven days without someone asking WTF with the VIN.

Jim's on the case, on the auction. FWIW, WIlliam's Minerva has two (unused) rivet holes (VIN 107, Production # 1384), as does US #0021 (prod # 99). Not sure how this car only has one rivet hole.

For what it's worth (and I never noticed before) the spare tire well floor in at least the 78s and 79s does have a stamp pad-looking area between the spare tire pads. Unused, but the provision for stamping appears to be there (?) This pic is from '78 Euro #428:

I love OB 928 auctions on BaT simply because I learn so much from all of the educated commentary from this group. Bravo.

So this i didn't know! Sweden. It kind of makes sense, front bulkhead stamps are hard to read. The seller should show that one too though. Plus I think we still have a missing aluminum front vin plate.

I could see this extra stamp being done at the factory for a swedish delivery, but don't think a "dealer" stamped that trunk with those little V shaped symbols. I don't see Porsche letting those out into the world.

There's always more to learn about these cars.

Well this clears up a lot about the orange car... the bulkhead VIN has been posted. @Rob Edwards are we sure there's not a "Extra Vin Stamping" code somewhere?

One of the things that has bothered me for years is how quickly 928 people blow up other peoples 928 auctions and criticize other peoples cars, often without doing their research.

Jim's posts on BAT are embarrassing to me as a 928 collector. GB's comments have been damaging to the market as well...

***. EDIT: Even my good (20 plus year friend) and massive 928 collector drooman is walking the edge with his above comments on this separate and detached forum. ***. Fortunately it resulted in yet another unique data point on early serial numbers!

I have stopped building my 928 collection because a few in the community take pleasure in harming the value of others cars. Driving collectors away is not good for any of us and the 928 is mis-understood enough without core enthusiasts being so insecure that they have to belittle others cars.

Personally I think that the Continental Orange BAT car has been moved from a mess of a car to something that would be a fun driver and if an enthusiast bought it and did a cosmetic refresh it would be a blast to show and enjoy!.

No, it will never be a perfect original garage queen, but why trash it? Let someone with the means buy it and take it to the next level!

Sheesh!
