Well, neither are CIS cars, so that's a help. Missing cam belt on the S is a concern, but it would be about time to take it apart for head gaskets anyhow.
If you have a good interior in your stock you can do it.
But it‘s 10-15.000 $ body and paint and minimum 10.000 $ mechanical parts.
Labour for wrenching not included.
Late reply, but how does bad powercoating and cleaning kill an engine? I just had my intake coated, so I'm worried.
Blasting media is left in the intake. It’s that simple. If you’ve run your engine for more than a few hours and it still runs you’re probably ok. If you haven’t yet run the engine then don’t, until you’ve read the threads and talked with everyone that handled your intake.
There are PLENTY of threads about this.
As more and more 928s are “restored” by shops that don’t know a 928 from a Yugo, more and more 928 blocks will be destroyed.
As many have mentioned, powder coating can be a guaranteed engine killer.....I was lucky that my old sharky had a pretty clean intake that I touched up with paint pens to match. If you really have a messed up intake, pull it off and strip the paint off yourself....then have it painted ......similar results with minimal risk of destroying your engine....also gives you a chance to refresh the flappy valve & knock sensors while the intake is off....I also would do the O rings on the injectors and have them cleaned-balanced.
