Early 1978 Oak Green over Cork/Pasha slicktop 5-speed coming up at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, AZ January 26th 2022.

Looks partially restored and decent... Nothing like Rob or Drooman would turn out...

Looks nice, but what is that koni/Eibach shock absorber-looking thing running outside of the washer filler neck? Air pump hose?

Ha! My eyes zeroed in on that right away too. No clue what that is.

It looks like a length of copper pipe with a wrap of condenser tubing around it. Maybe someone was dismantling a still and repurposed it?

Name 4 other things incorrect in this 2 square feet of engine compartment:

Expansion Cap
Intake tubes
Hose to the AC valve on the cross brace.
Missing the fender edge seal - what's left is still there.

Not sure if it was present on the OB's but my S4 has an Adel clamp to keep the wiring harness up off the top of the shock mount hardware and prevent chafing.

No kidding! I have no idea what it is??? There are tons of details amiss and I'm not an OB expert enough to catch them all. When I see radio, spark plug wires and air filters wrong, it sets me in that "Look Out" mode.

None-the-less, it will be interesting to watch since so few of us have confidence in Barrett - Jackson or Mecum.

There are also three other 928's on the docket:
89 White/Tan S4 with 47k.
88 Black/Black 5-speed, LSD, Sport Seats, funky wheels, stereo and a sunburn...
81 Red/Black 5-speed, pretty clean Euro.

In the picture, you can see a yellow plastic T-extension piece in the hose right below the cross brace. This is not correct.

Other than a few of these nits, which are readily correctable, the seller is nuts for taking a car like this to B-J. All B-J auctions are no reserve. At that auction, with that crowd into vettes, camaros and mustangs (and the odd hemi or two), this car will sell for $15K is my prediction. Maybe hit something with a 2 in front of it if one of us shows up (My money is on Dave swinging by to make the steal ).

EDIT - look at the pictures closely - those pascha seats are recovered seats, and not an especially good job either. This one is interesting. Lots done to it. Wonder if the paint is original. 1978 PORSCHE 928 (barrett-jackson.com)

Yep. Pattern is all off as well. Looks like rear seats are original. I have become so jaded at the way cars are prepped for auction. Basically throw every used car trick at the wall and see what sticks. I can smell the fresh paint from here.

With that said, it's a 78 in the right colors and would not take a whole lot to bring it up a notch or two. I predict 27k.

Checkmate, what do infer from what you quoted?

@CT Mike Just some tongue and cheek at "fully restored" when clearly missing quite a few things....

What are those wires to?

missing a few teeth

I do like the color combo though. I wouldn't be the least bit embarrassed to drive this as is.

Broken netting that stretches between the rear seats.

Under the hood, (among other things) looks like they decided black paint was cheaper than zink plating. Headlight bar, bolts for engine cross brace - all painted black instead of the correct finish. I hate it when a professional shop claims "restored" when they've used a spray can. Then there's those red plug wires and incorrect routing. My eye's twitching as I see the one running over the intake tube.

Still, the car presents well, and I'll be anxious to see how it does.
