Looks partially restored and decent... Nothing like Rob or Drooman would turn out...

Tricky pictures - here's a shot from someone who is there (posted on FB in the 928 group). Looks like the bumper cover bead in the front and the park lights surrounds are sprayed. Paint to sell perhaps? It sure does not have the same luster as the sales photos, and that pascha looks terrible on the tops of those seats. You decide:

Here is the 89 S4 that sold at Barrett - Jackson today for $45,100. Very clean one owner car with no dash cracks or damage. Really nice 47,000 mile car.

I looked at the 78 OB Pasha/Oak Green car. I do not want to bash someone else's car, but if it goes above $100,000k the bar has definitely been re-set for 928's.

Something I have never seen before at auctions is groups of people standing around 928's talking extremely positively about the cars. Lots of traffic around all three that I looked at today.

The 1988 Black/black car is a re-spray with no under trays, non original wheels, aftermarket stereo and no books. Miles are around 135,000 and there is heavy cracking of the dashboard and pod and general sun damage is present. Window rubbers have black silicone caulking in them and toolkit is incomplete. With the 5-speed and sport seats it will carry decent dollars when it crosses the block on Thursday evening. California car though and it is not crusty!

But again, there were people all over this car - tons of interest!

no pictures of the oak green car Dave? Thanks for the review. That's a nice result for the white car.

The Oak green car was in really bad light and it did not look good so I did not put them up.

BTW, the 88 5-speed is advertising that it has a limited slip, but it did not come from the factory according to the vin number. Could have been added but no way to check that from the documentation with the car.

Not impressed with Barrett - Jackson.

Barrett Jackson shows the Oak Green car selling for $38,500. Not sure what buyer premium would add but clearly under the auction estimate stated in the article posted earlier. Seems like the good folks on this forum know their values.

Yeah, I was there a number of years back. Had a great time but it is just a big circus. When you see some cars that sell way under what you would think they should, there's a reason. I saw a lot of "numbers matching" cars that were clearly restamped replacements. What is written up in the ad and what the car truly is may differ by a huge margin. Overall there are a lot of great cars there that are the real deal. If there is ever one you are thinking of buying from them, or any of the other auction houses, show up in person to inspect. You may get burned a bit by phone or internet bidding. The place is the Barnum & Baily of the car world.

I am a car auction addict and could not agree more, having purchased at BJ and Mecum. Eyes and boots on the ground to look these cars over is an absolute must. I would not buy sight unseen unless I was so flush with cash I can deal with cosmetic or mechanical surprises.

I believe the hammer price was $35k, and 10% buyer's premium = $38,500.
Not sure how I feel about this auction. The car would have done considerably better if a few things had been done right during its reconditioning. I think it also would have done better on BaT than where it was sold.

Meanwhile, the Garnett Red '85 Euro which sold on BaT also went for less than I expected. What the heck is going on here???

I think BaT audience usually give more attention and respect (=more $) to well known enthusiast/private sellers who restored, kept, and maintained collectible 928s.
Like Rob's '78 petrol blue as example and Stan's venetian blue euro from few years ago.
The red euro (forgot what color but wasn't Garnet Red but better in my opinion) would've received much higher bids if it was sold under Stan or Rob's care/name.
Some people will trust dealers less as compared to private sell even well known dealers like 1600veloce.
It would've sold in $60-65s if Stan/Rob sold it I believe.
