Early '79 Euro 5-speed in Petrol Blue w/pasha, 70K miles for only $5K
https://appleton.craigslist.org/cto/...924799594.html
Note the odd speaker setup in the door
Rear bumper cover looks like it was replaced with one from an S model
So this one pains me a bit. A petrol blue OB with pasha is near if not at the top of my want list for my next 928. When this one popped up on CL yesterday I inquired immediately. I spoke to the owner, Louis. He is a really nice older gentleman who imported the car in 1984 from Germany when he was living in New Mexico. He believes he is the second owner. The car runs and drives (AC even works) but it has been sitting in his outbuilding for the past 15 years. He believes the transmission needs a couple of synchros and openly admits that the car will be a project. But the real gem is that the paint is original (or at least never painted since '84 (unlikely it was resprayed by the first owner in the previous 5 years)) and the pasha fabric is in "very good" condition according to Louis.
A couple of other things. The radio is an aftermarket Alpine system put in from the first owner with custom speakers. Since it's a German unit it apparently doesn't tune to any US stations. He has a full set of workshop manuals and other various paperwork that he kept.
He is firm on the price and has gotten a lot of inquiries about the car. And after about 10 minutes I was ready to say. "I'll take it!" but then came the real let down (at least for me). The original owner had an aftermarket moonroof installed. Such a bummer. There is no easy (inexpesive) way to remedy that. So I passed on it. But I believe this car still has potential to be a real nice example. And if the paint and pasha are in as decent condition as the owner says, then for someone who doesn't mind a moonroof, at $5K it would be hard to feel you went wrong. Hopefully someone here will ****** this one up.

That is a little painful... Did he say the pod and dashboard were uncracked?
Classic roof and gearbox issues on a early OB. Still, it is tempting!

nate, only you can make such a personal call, but I think you can eventually remedy the roof. it can be done, and it would deserve to be done properly. the car sounds great, otherwise. good luck
at that price point, I can't imagine there is much of a downside.

There's a fair amount of other things that would be needed if bringing it back to original spec was the plan. The chin and rear spoiler would need to be removed also, plus the federalized side markers (ad says gray market, but it looks to have been properly federalized, so not gray market). By the time you fix all of those body things, you are looking at a full respray, so originality of paint is no longer there. But if the interior is good (fix the doors), it could still be worth it. You are looking at $20K plus to do the exterior right.

If you're hung up on 'as it left the factory' originality. For me, a car modified in a period-correct way also has appeal. And, anyway, a moonroof is probably a better idea for these cars than the sunroof.

I know I sound like a broken record, but i truly believe there is no such thing as good used Porsche fabric. This stuff tends to dry rot badly. The only exception seems to be script cloth which seems to wear better. Any Pascha fabric that seems good will start to disintegrate with use.
Cool car, may just have to live with the mods on this one however.

There looks to be a large crack above the glovebox but unsure if that is a shadow.

I use a German version of a Blaupunkt in my '90, a Köln RCM 40, because it has the long wave and short wave bands (60m, 49m, 41m and 31m). The normal AM and FM bands are perfectly useable, but are offset at the ends just slightly. Overall, I think it's my favourite of the 80s + 90s Blaupunkt radios.

I can't believe the pics are so overly saturated to hide all the scratches/paint condition.

Another "near perfect" '79 from the same seller
Just saw this and it struck me that the detailed "10+++ out of a perfect 10" description sounded familiar. Seller is consistent.
