A few of us made him offers the first time it was up for sale. He never got back to me. I assume he would get in touch with the next highest offerer. I'm sure that wasn't me but mine was a heck of a lot sweeter than the dealer's.
This guy's ad has scam written all over it...way too many red flags for me..
1) I have 20 years of receipts but know nothing about the car
2) $12k from dealership
3) Don't ask me any questions
4) and my favorite --- "It needs nothing" ... I haven't met a 928 yet that can claim that!

#4 is the truth. Even Willhoit's cars, as low mileage as they are, need to be thoroughly gone through and have all the soft parts replaced due to age.
I would be just as suspect as you are with what the seller is stating.
FYI, It is not unusual for an early BLACK GTS to have been repainted. There was a defect in the paint on the early GTS black cars so bad that Porsche paid to have some disassembled and repainted. Seen it with my own eyes many years ago, shortly after the cars were brand new.
Cheers,
Dave
Good to know. First I have heard of it. I have seen a number of resprayed black GTS's but usually it was due to damage. Curious if they painted it in base clear or single stage.
Not a 928 per se...but interesting auction going on over at BAT for a set of 968 17" Cup I wheels in the correct front offset for a 928. Looks like an good alternative to finding the "uber-rare" GTS Cup I wheels and the added bonus of not having to deal with RDK sensors. Bidding is already sprightly with 6 days to go.

These should bring good money. They are being discussed on the 964 and 968 forums as well.
Did Porsche drill these for the RDK sensors or were there different part numbers. I never thought to pull mine to look but I have not seen a specific part number for the GTS. Although they do have the two sensors and warning labels which were specific to the GTS.

P/N for GTS wheels are different due to the RDK holes. 965.362.164.05 for fronts, 965.362.168.00 for rears. ET's are identical.

I have a set of these, glad I got them for $800 cdn a couple years ago. Best option for a 928 IMO, especially since they don't have RDK holes. I suspect these will go north of 3k usd.
I don’t see anything in that ad that says repaint. Where’d that come from? Or do I need a day off?
We did a PPI on a "low mile 18k" GTS a few years back that Chuck Z was looking at. Once it was put under some good lighting it had 3/4 different shades of black on it. Terrible paint job. We questioned if it was true mileage as the cluster had the de-lamination that seems to plague 1990 cars. Seller insisted it was all original too. A few years later Wilhoit picked it up and was selling it for high numbers only he seems to get. Couldn't believe he took that one on, much less was flipping it for $60k more than it was asked for when we looked at it. I think the PPI is still shown on the registry too.
Here is a nice 93 GTS 5 Speed Manual in Northern California that popped up this morning on my saved '928 5 Speed Manual" search. One of 54 or so that came to the U.S. in 1994 if I have that correct.

It does seem to be mainly dealers, which (what you are probably saying) makes it more difficult to find cars that sellers don't know the value of like Craigslist.
