I don't know enough about the details of 911 vs 928 racing if there even are any but the guy was a smug ****.

Any tips for next time I see the guy? At least the guys here are helpful. Whats the deal??
Please PM his name......I'd like to research his lap times at local tracks to determine how fast he really is and if he can beat any of the local race 928's.....

Unforunately this is quite common......we call it GT3 syndrome.....guys with more $$$$ than brains....I take great pride in passing them on track

I never got the memo that different models were supposed to ostracize each other?
I wave at all other Pcars.

I'll add one more comment to this thread. I wonder how many times the following has happened to Mr Porsche:

I drive the '94 for most any errand during the three seasons it's on the road. Last week I had two incidents in two days that brought big smiles and some nice "car" conversation.

At the Ace Hardware store parking lot a few miles away, a guy was exiting the parking lot as I was coming in. After I parked and was getting out of the car, he backed his car up so it was behind my car, then rolled down the passenger window. He said "THAT is a work of art. It is absolutely gorgeous". So we talked a bit about an 18 year old car that has 81K miles on it. He was in awe that it looked and ran so good. Said "I've never seen a Porsche as beautiful as that".

Two days later I made a run to a Home Depot about 10 miles away. I was walking back to the car when I noticed a woman circling the car while her husband was loading their pickup (there was an empty space between our vehicles). I had two 10' pieces of PVC, so I opened the hatch to put them in and commented "funny looking truck, isn't it!". She said "I've never seen a Porsche like this before - is it new". Same review of age and mileage. After a few minutes of conversation, including that she had owned one of the original 912's a long time ago, I was getting in the car to leave and she said "That car is every bit as beautiful as an Aston Martin, and that's my favorite car". After thanking her for the compliment, I said "The Aston is also one of my favorites, but I'll never be able to afford one". She laughed and said good bye as she was getting in the pickup.

I probably have some kind of conversation along those lines about once or twice a month, but this was the first time it was two consecutive "outings" for Katrina (aka TONKA).

SO - there are people in the world who appreciate OUR cars, some of them every bit as much as we do.

Gary--

PS: and, if i'd been at the bar scene that started this thread, I might have told him about the time I was having lunch with Hans Mezger at the Porsche Weissach dining room in 1987 and I asked Hans what "used" Porsche I should buy, as I hadn't bought a new car since 1976, and probably wouldn't buy another one in my lifetime. (Hans was the designer of the original 911 engine, the legendary 917 racing engine, and the 928 engine among several others - and was head of new engine development at that time). After some discussion (auf deutsche), he and his associate agreed that a 928 was one of the two models that were the best cars they'd made and the most reliable/enjoyable ones I should consider buying. The associate drove a 928. I bought a used '87 S4 as my first Porsche a few years later.

For another comment in favor of 911 owners, I recently happened to meet the president of our local PCA, and naturally he is a 911 owner. But he was really appreciative of my car, and he specifically asked me to join the club because "everyone there would love to see one of these."

First PCA meeting i went to i meet some really nice people. this one guy on the other hand, was a tool. when he asked what kind of car i had i told him a 9-2-8. He gave me the look of " my grounds keepers retarded cousin has on of those" and said, how nice. sipped his cosmo (not joking) then went off to talk track stuff with other dudes..

left a sour taste for awhile. but i have meet lots of 911 guys who are great and love the shark.

Funny, if you look at how the 911 has evolved, the chassis dimensions keep getting closer and closer to the 928 specifications.....and the air cooled 911 engine evolved into a water pumper, almost 15 years ago.

Look closely at the new 991....it's not very hard to see a whole lot of 928 "curves and shapes" in that car.

And BTW....It really is pretty damn close to a "**** Camaro".

Most (not everyone) Rabid 911 guys (those online, racing, or attendees of gatherings) that I have experienced do have something against 928's. They also know little of the 928. I don't understand why but it does exist.

Because it was the top dog for many years and it was designed to replace their beloved Beetles. Now I happen to love Porsches-doesn't matter what type. I learned to drive a stick in a VW 914.

I drove my friend's 89 911 about a year ago. What a fun little car.

I like all kinds of cars and I was able to drive a number of 911's back in the 80's and recently a 997S, they are fun but they are no 928.

To the OP, the 1 time to my knowledge that a 928 raced against a 911, BOTH with factory support, the 928 (a Euro) beat a 930 handily on the NBR.

Another video to show the guy, a great sounding V8, something the 911 will never have, I just found this and I guessed the owner before I even read the comments;

Here's another comeback. "hey some guys like it in the rear, I am not one of those guys."
