Lifter noise solutions needed - (gasket improperly installed)

I suspect this mode is unlikely as the low part of the cam defines the max expansion of the lifter vs the valve spring, no forces come to mind that would expand the lifter working against the valve spring force.
5 to 10 min most recently using MMO on a 6 month since last start, and I recall it was half and hour or more on my old Euro motor first time I started it.
How important is the oil change soon part? Swebco vs Marvel Mystery?

On the bottle, it says: "When adding 502 to engines suspected or known to be "dirty", drain oil at greatly reduced intervals for the first 2 changes. Once the large deposits have been removed and drained, you should be able to safely operate your engine with longer drain periods."
"Greatly" and "should be" are a bit vague....sounds like some of "our" past 928 engine builders talking....
I think they are talking about old American V-8 engines that have 1/2" of crap in the lifter valley and the heads. I've never seen a 928 or a 944 engine anything like those things can get....although it can get pretty "thick" in the oil pan of engines that have had TBF.

Pretty sure I got the carrier gaskets correct, seem to recall it was pretty evident which way they went on. (But hey, anything's possible)
I'll try the Swepco and if it doesn't clear up, I'll order up some new gaskets and lifters.
Thanks for all info everyone.

Didn't touch the heads, just pulled the cam boxes and inserted 4.5L cams.

As I said, "increasing" lifter noise, after starting, isn't normal and would scare me.

Pretty sure I got it right then. I do recall laying the gasket on both ways just to make sure I was getting it right.
Waiting for a call from "my local Swepco sales associate" to place an Order for 502. I'm being told by corporate that I need to order by the case (12 bottles) at about $9/bottle. Posted a group buy on the PacNW 928 list and am already up to 2 cases. Its going to be popular stuff up here.

Maybe the frugal thing to do would be pour in the goop, run 500 miles or two years which ever comes first, then pull the oil filter and cut it open. If the filter looks nasty top up the oil and replace the filter and check again in another 500 miles?

I'd want to "see" something positive happen, pretty quickly. If none of them recover/change, I'd want to make sure that there is actually oil getting where it needs to be.
Starting an engine up, warming it up, and then driving it 15 miles should have "fixed" some of the darn things?

Did not get a chance to add the Swepco 502 yet. Motor died while warming up, found that the exciter wire had separated from the 14 pin plug. I'll resolder tonight and try it again.
I did make a quick video however, and I must say the sound is much different when listening to it on the video compared to standing over the motor. And I don't mean that in a good way.
Here it is, are we still talking lifter noise here, or did someone stick a diesel in when I wasn't looking?

Ugh.... that does not sound like a lifter, but then I'm no expert. That sounds really harsh.

16v lifters are larger than 32v ones so will be louder, quite possible that's all this is. Had one of our own with this issue and all it needed was to run a bit.

If Swepco 502 "fixes" that, I'll be putting it in every vehicle I own. Heck, I'll spray some on my balding head to see if it grows new hair. Worth a try.

If I recall corrrectly, Ken O had a similar sound in his track car after he swapped in that heavily ported head into the white track car.... give him a shout to see if it was a lifter or something else...
