At 16mm the head on the HF scope is too big to go through the spark plug hole. You need something less than 13mm. There are a bunch or "endoscopes" on eBay for about $30, but they are 14.6mm. Here's a scope that says the head is 10mm, but the image sensor is only 320x240. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-4-Video-In...item3a71c2ead5 This one at $50 (bid) is 11.2mm and 640x480 - that should work. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Zoom-functio...item1c24c8ceb5 I can't imagine what might be inside the cylinder that would make such a regular noise for so long. A valve would make a racket for just a short while and the car would not run so well.

It's slow goin since the wrench will only "swing" an inch or two in either direction on some of bolts.

I use one of these in conjunction with a laptop
at work (Structural Engineering)and in the garage.
I haven't tried it into the cylinders yet but the
head is just on 13mm so it might work.
Saved it's cost the first time I used it.
Lots of uses and money well spent in my book.

Well, its been interesting.
The piston crown does show some contact marks. The marks appear to be on (what I'm presuming to be) the lowest part of the crown. Basically, if I dropped a ball bearing down the spark hole, where it would come to rest on the piston crown. The mark is inbetween the valve relief eyebrows, which I'm presuming face curved side down. If not, then the camera is inverting the image and I'm looking at the top half of the piston.
I rooted around with a magnet down in the cylinder, and got nothing. It's a little frustrating, because even with the piston at BDC, I still can't position the probe head in such a fashion that I can see the entire piston crown. Since I am able to see what I'm presuming is the lowest point of the piston top, then whatever was in there isn't any longer, or is its non-ferrous so I can't get it with a magnet.
Any ideas or guesses as to what's going on here? Is this contact mark related to the "lifter noise"?
What might be a good way to flush out this cylinder?

Do the old vacuum cleaner demo trick, put a thin cloth like a handkerchief over one of the hose connections on a shop vac and stick in a section of plastic hose. Periodically check the hanky for debris. Maybe rotate the engine so you can draw air from intake or exhaust valve.
Poke around with something sticky, like grease.
