Three months and one week later and $15K, she's finally done!

Entire top end of engine redone, refinished, replated, replaced.

Entire front end of car resprayed, plus a few other cosmetic issues corrected.

Interior completely detailed.

Looks and drives fantastic.

A couple cell-phone pics:

Great to see it back together and that it all worked out! And your misfortune has probably saved a bunch of cars from having this happen. You're a hero!

That sure is a beautiful color!

Randy,

Good to see you back on the block. Hope the $15k came out of the insurance man's pocket rather than yours.

At least you can get comp insurance on your car- more than I can over here sad to say - the insurance companies will not cover older cars comprehensively.

Good luck and keep it in one piece.

Fred

What insurance company was that? I'm not sure that mine would pay much of anything.

Randy:

Glad to hear you are back on the road. Would you mind saying who did the engine refurb?

Glad its back (maybe better even) - your engine brace does seem bowed - was that from the fire?

This thread convinced me to buy a fire extinguisher and do my fuel lines—thanks! Glad you’re back on the road. Is that front fuel line stock? Seems to have different/longer fitting on it than stock, but it may be the picture. Engine looks great BTW; especially all the new plastic (washer tube, expansion tank, filler cap, intake tubes, etc.)

My brace is definitely not bent like that... also the air box is not properly seated on the driver's side.

Stupid camera tricks--

Mine looks bowed in pictures due to lens distortion. Perfectly straight in real life.

Crossbrace is slightly bowed - never noticed it before.

Allstate - paid for everything, except the rental car.

Which fuel hose? All parts were replaced with OEM. The long hose running across the engine is the cam cover breather hose.

Airbox top was replaced with a brand new one today - was on order. Airbox on most cars I've seen tends to sit higher on right (driver) side for whatever reason.

Engine work was done by John Chambers Motorsports in Carlsbad.

Paintwork by Rancho Autobody in Encinitas.

First day on the road with the new paint job and of course it rained.
