Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I've had the car washed and the engine bay power washed. Need to have the interior detailed today.

Next step is to have it looked at by the insurance adjuster.

Will let you know how that goes.

Wow, ugly scene that could have easily ended much worse. This must be the #1 save of the year, at least for this forum.

I had a similar situation, but the engine was cold on a 50 degree night and I smelled the fuel before it reached any ignition source.

In my case the fuel rail was cracked from taking the gauge on / off. The 16V rails are much less robust than the 32V versions, which I upgraded to shortly there after.

Randy, sorry to hear this. Please post pix of the engine bay, now that it has been power washed. I am (morbidly) curious to see what it looks like now.

If the fire was local around the fuel rail on the passenger side and extinguished fast enough, you may more than likely will need to replace the LH & EZK wiring harness for the engine in addition to the rail, hoses and sensors.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Insurance appraisal occured this weekend.

Agent indicates all will be totally covered, and as it is fire-related, my policy waives the deductible.

Time to start gathering parts.

Default Good news

Randy

that's good news just curious what model, age FP gauge was that should we consider putting a shut of valve between the rail and gauge?

So the moral is, keep an extinguisher handy, install a remote fuel cut off, and wait for the fire to get all the old bits you want replaced?

Good to hear. Maybe it will even be better than before when all is said and done.

Or maybe putting the ball and cap back on it.

Of course - that's a no-brainer.

I still have the original ball and cap.
