Engine Fire
All that work and you only posted cell phone pics! Come on, lets see some nice shots of the finished product, do it some justice!
Glad things worked out and you were able to get her back to new again.
Definitely get that cross brace replaced, should be a 2 minute DIY.

My original hose looked like it had been scuffed by the oil filler so when I replaced it I slit a piece of clear plastic hose and slipped it over that fuel line where it goes under the oil filler. You can't see it and it just adds some protection against abrasion.

I didn't ask - he just does this whenever he replaces these - just based on the condition of those he's removed.

Randy from Vertex Auto years ago - great deal on sale - I think it was $99 - they still have it but a liitle more $$:

It is a great piece & very fair price I think - still looks absolutely brand new...
It does need a little adaptation - see the thread for what I did:
Original Thread on this - lots of skeptics proven wrong... You could use it without this but it would likely move a little

All this has scared me into buying a fire extinguisher to keep in my 928. Anyone have any suggestions?
I was looking at this one:

but $128 seems like a lot (of course far less than the $15k spent to fix this disaster). I'd want one that was non-power non-mess making if possible.

You need at least 2.5Lbs to be effective. Plenty of threads on this - search for extinguishers.
Sizing is important, mounting is important and deployment is important - consider - if this happened to you how would you get the Halon/Halotron etc to the fire (without making it worse - for the fire and you - by opening the hood).

Glad to read your car is back up and running Randy.......its a great example.
Hopefully you'll make it to the 928OC gathering this summer where we can see the 'patient' first hand

Upon closer look, Vertex calls this a "carbon fiber look" bar:

So just overwrap on top of metal?
There is alot of that CF 'look' wrap out there so it's no surprise that it would wind up being sold as parts that are sitting right on top of the engine bay and anyone can install.
Some industrial/aerospace suppliers do make actual CF finished tubes and attaching ends should be simple in theory.
BTW, congrats on getting back to normal, great news!
