Default drive shafts

Finally dismantled the drive shafts in order to change the dust bellows. Drawbacks: forgot to order the gaskets 930 332 297 00 of which you need 6 according to the WMS. Another drawback was one of the bolts refusing to let go. I had to cut it at the flange so I can clamp the remaining stud in a vice or heat it without damaging other parts.

Are the ***** in the lower left actually heat discolored (blue, at the risk of thread drift)? If so, must have some wear and or they were run with dried out lubrication? Might consider replacement of some of the parts in that CV joint....

Did a compression test on my 89S4 per WallyP instructions of 5 cranks. All the pressures were very close but high according to what I have gathered from around the web. I am using a Mac Tools Gauge with no idea when it was last calibrated.

Cyl Pressure(lbs/in2)
== ======
1 198
2 195+
3 195+
4 195+
5 200+
6 205-
7 200+
8 202

The engine was just above ambient temperature of 100F and car has 107K miles. Does this seem correct?

All plugs looked like this:

That looks good. if the cylinders are wet the compression will be high and the gauge could be reading 10 psi high so all is normal. Start to worry when they are steady under 150 and heading for 130. Then it will be time for rings.

Brad

Edit: sorry, . . What I did today;
I took the Piaa lights back as Alan pointed out that they were wrong for my H4 (I bought 9004 bulbs) opps.

I had to order the extra white bulbs (PIAA as well) which were $35 cheeper, but for the H4. Thanks Alan

Default Fixed my 12-way drivers seat

My 12-way drivers seat had become a 5-way seat. The seats were originally from a 91 GT with memory function, now installed in an '87 without memory. The P.O. put in the seats, but didn't get the wiring quite right.

Time to remove the switches and find out why. Turns out two of the switches had corroded contact points. Easy enough to clean. Also, the P.O. didn't wire the recline function well, so those wires were repaired. Now I was up to 8-way.

The lumbar function was trickier to figure out. Had to consult the workshop manuals for the wiring diagrams; took me some time to realize the lumbar switch was different from the other two. I had to add a positive wire to the switch, match up the other wires, and Ta'Da! Lumbar works, all 12-functions functional!

Nice!

Assisted Bill Ball in installing new rear wheel bearings and axles. Both of my rear axles had split boots, and the bearings were starting to make some noise.

Adjusted the Bowden cable after having to replace the ball end. Also put some Dow 111 silicone grease on window and hatch seals as I continue to search for an elusive squeak. Final project for the weekend was to paint the lettering black on the intake just to see how it looks and if I like it.

I think it is a keeper. Someday when the intake needs R&R again I'll do the whole powder coat/paint thing on the intake and cam covers.

Dove into the driversside door to fix the failing handle mechanism. Dreading the repair I've had the part for months. The 86 is a bit different than the write up's I've seen, but I managed to get the lock mechanism out to find that the inside latch mechanism had not failed, only the the two screws holding the handle to the inside latch mech had come loose. Some blue Loctite, tightened back up, and save the new part for another day. I did NOT replace both of the 8mm bolt/crimp nuts mounting the bottom portion of the lock mechanism, only replacing one (the easy one). Seems like two was totally overkill there anyway. Four hours to tighten two screws - not so bad.
