I also kept hearing about the button under the gas pedal that was supposed to put the car into hyperdrive. Mine never worked so I got under there and saw that the pedal part just doesn't quite match up with the button (though nothing seems out of sorts). So I put a piece of tubing on the pedal part and raised the button a bit with a washer. Boy that makes a difference - straight to redline and zoom!
Today I finally dealt with the transmission shifting. There was leaky vacuum in the pressure line so I ran cunifer into the empty slots on the rear brake line guides to bypass the original pressure line. And the pressure control valve was leaky so I replaced that, too. It took a few turns of the T to get the shifting right and it seems really nice now.
Noticed a ripped CV boot on the driver side so that's next on my list for a winter repair.
I took the good advice from here and removed the hood prior to this pig of a job.... Man that underhood-glue took forever to remove. But at last it's gone. Ready for heat resistant glue and the scary "one-shot mounting" procedure...
I think I succeeded ok with the mounting. But it was close that I screwed it up when it tacked on in the corner almost before I was ready. With these contact glue's there's really no way back when it sticks. I will maybe mount the two small cornerpieces on the sides of the nacaducts also...
The following setup of the hood was a bit tricky. I would say a two man job to make it easier, and just tweak it until the shotlines are straight...
And all fixed. So much oil came off _everything_ it plugged up the oil seaparator at the cleaner..you can evenly spread a quart of oil along the entire engine bay and bottom of the car...
Hey guys, I'm a total newbie trying to step outside of my comfort zone and took on a 1987 Porsche 928 s4 project. Doing the intake refresh and replacing the vacuum lines. Like a newbie I didn't take enough pictures and am feeling a little lost when connecting the vacuum lines to the intake.
When looking at the vacuum diagram it shows 3 lines but my intake has 4 nipples? Attached are the photos of the diagram and my intake. Two nipples Two vaccum nipples 3 vacuum lines to the intake but 4 nipples where does the extra line go?
Also, anyone know what these wires are for? They were cut off when I removed the intake manifold.
This is my first rebuild and without the help of some close friends and you guys this would happen. Thank tou very much for your help. It will be paid forward.
The 4th vacuum port - the 'unused' one you show in your photo of the underside of the throttle housing - is for the air pump diverter valve on cars with an air pump. If your 928 has no air pump this port should be securely capped -i.e. blocked off.
