Today I fixed the cruise control. Even with a good computer it was sometimes not coming on, so I took off the front wheel, removed the inside liner, and took out the CC servo.

Applied a voltage to it from a regulated power supply and gave it some voltage. Appeared stuck, was pulling 1a current then clicked and current draw dropped significantly. Cycled it a few times, then started the car. Sure enough the car goess to full throttle when any amount of voltage is applied to the servo. My guess is the valve gate in there was stuck and is now cleared. And cruise works perfectly again.

I'm thinking this could be a failure mode for the controller: If the servo's solenoid gate gets stuck then it could pull more than 1a and not open. Do that for any length of time and you will short out the 1a FET in the output drive circuit of the CC unit. Hm.... May be time to splice in a fuse to protect the controller as it is sourced by a 7.5a fuse....

Try Keys4Classics, they're in Australia. Your ignition cylinder should have a series of digits scrolled into the side of it. If you give them those digits, they should be able to cut you a new key. Worked great for me.

For me, today, I'm removing the front bumper cover for repaint.

If the lock is original, Porsche might be able to make you one from the VIN. If the lock has been changed, or if their records are wrong, it won't work.

Keys For Classics is a good option. Do you have any keys?

You can see if you have an alarm or not by looking at the hatch lock, upper part. Alarm locks have a plastic cap protruding out the bottom.

This has been discussed at length. Search a bit and you should find a good bit of info.

Or start a new thread.

Nearly managed to separate the auto box and the torque tube....but didn't...

Renoved the rear transverse brake pipe and ABS wiring. Wiring needs resleeving as per.

Washed the rear wheel arch as part of prep of whole rear underside ready for overhauled suspension.

Looked at the gearbox..dirty, oily. Where to start?

Default Venter Caps

PO had left the Turbo caps on that came with the 17" Turbo Twist wheels. I put the Porsche Caps on the 275/40 17s today. Now no one will come to me and say.."Your center caps don't match the specs of the car...928's didn't come with a turbo". lol

frugal928... Love your screen name. I'm not sure "frugal" and "928" should even be in the same sentence much less right together.

Especially since I ordered parts for four different 928's I own yesterday. Today is prep work and organization day for getting the cars out.

I'm in the same boat on the DIY front but have four of these beasts to keep fed and happy. Sure am learning a great deal and having fun to boot!

Enjoy!

After tackling the passenger door I figured it was time to work on the driver's door. The mirrors have been weird: They don't work right all the time and the defroster had a strange problem where it blew fuses till I isolated (cut the wire) to the driver's side mirror. Even with one wire cut when the defroster is on moving the mirrors makes weird thing happen.

So I pulled the panel. Total wreck, note the charring on the door panel....

And I checked out the wiring. Ut oh, this does not look good.

Looks like there was a small fire/wire implosion way back when that was fixed with electrical tape on the browns and yellow wires. I'm pretty sure at this point that the old mirror heater shorted, which burned up these wires and made a mess. Mirror long since replaced, but the harness is probably damaged.

Oh well, replaced all the clips, cleaned things up, and put the door back on. I'll think about how to fix this over the summer.
