Put some Pioneer A-Series 6.5's into my quarter panel. I had an Infinity 625i that was on its way out on the passenger side. Quite shocked how much better Pioneer sounds these days versus the early 2000's.
Replaced seal on one of the front wheel RDK pressure sensors, to fix a very slow leak that's been there since I bought the car nine years ago! Also replaced the sensor nut with new as per the WSM.
Meant always remembering to top up a few psi before driving if I hadn't used car for a few days. I found the leaking seal only with soap solution, and even then you had to watch for a bit to see bubbles slowly forming. It was way down to-do list so only got to it now having found a used sensor pin wrench on ebay. After monitoring over past week it seems to have fixed leak which is great - was very irritating getting the RDK warning when I hadn't kept on top of pressures.
On Jan 8th I started the process of getting my cracked windscreen replaced by requesting quotes
On the 15th the quote was authorised by the insurance company
I am still waiting for the installer to to propose an install date after receiving parts
I remember being at an event at 928Intl a few years ago where there was an installer of Mexican descent who was replacing 928 windscreens so quickly I could hardly follow what he was doing
That was a lesson in true expertise
Eliminated some 6/12 wheel bearing play I had in both front wheels that was creating a heel / toe pattern on the inside of the front tire.
I used the info from the guys here in a prior thread for guidance - finger tight, but still able to move the washer in the back with a screwdriver. Wheels reinstalled and play eliminated 👍
Putting the GTS back together. Today new main bearings, crank and girdle all back together. Also put new PAC Racing springs, seat locators and retainers in the heads.
... then got to refill it in the Walmart parking lot. After repositioning a clamp to the good side of the burst in the hose, and adding 3.5 gallons of a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water, I completed the drive home without further issue.
I had Re-foamed the front 4” a while back. Thought I’d take a look at the 6” rears as they didn’t sound right. The original foam surrounds were completely deteriorated.
Bought replacement foam surround from Simply Speakers part number FSK-6P206. OD slightly larger than original so had to trim off some around edge.
Cleaned up and glued in new foams. I’ll hook up the speakers today and should improve the sound.
Foam surround cracked and dry Trim surround to fit Cleaned up old foam and glue Finished ready to install
Replacing the support foam means that the new foam needs to hold the voice coil perfectly centered in the magnet structure. Easiest way I've found to do that is to carefully remove that center paper dome by trimming at the edge with a sharp razor blade. Once that's out of the way, use paper strips as spacers to keep the coil and the form/support perfectly centered. Glue the surround foam to the frame, putting no radial force on the cone as you do. When that glue is dry, extract the paper strips, and glue the center dome back in.
You'll know the coil isn't centered if the speaker sound sounds distorted on assembly. In extreme cases, the wire on the coil form will rub. and will quickly fail as the enamel insulation rubs through.
Old New
Installing the new steering wheel with extended hub. Unbelieveble how much more comfy the position in the car for tall ppl is.
