Got the German Nivea from a SoCal at 8$ per tin.

Put silicone oil in the cooling fan clutch. I used 5,000 cst from the hobby store. Somewhat frustrating trying to add drop by drop using the well documented heat and spin method. But then I tried loading up a syringe and squirting it in. Once in, I spun the fan until the trapped air in the clutch was able to escape into the syringe. Much faster this way. Then I was back on the road doing some holiday shopping.

Dropped in a new CSF radiator I got from Rog. Damn, this thing is a piece of art. Easy peasy, no issues. Fit like a glove. Just need three new stickers for the top. That old Behr is a joke in comparison. Very pleased with purchase and cooling performance so far. Behr can sit in the corner and see how it's done.

Felt the same way when I put my CSF in. No seals to leak from.

Thanks MJ. They're from SRP and they have a bunch of different textures and finishes available. Very nice quality. One of last year's Christmas gifts

Default Drove the car

Hi everyone,
The car is moving under its own power for the first time in 5+ years. Battled sour fuel in the system, bad tranny(5speed) [input sheared off], bad torque tube(splines gone), and all the other small problems associated with restarting a damaged car after a while in storage.

Just fun to drive...

Missed my car and garage again today.
Far from home. Haven't worked on or driven the car for many months now.

Replaced Rear Hatch Release Motor that I received from brother Herman. Works like a champ.

I have my original Motor that has the classic blown diode that I will gladly ship to anyone who wants to repair it. Motor works fine but never stops because diode is burnt.

I'm more of a Metric Hammer and Wrench guy and absolutely horrible with a soldering iron. Let me and I'll ship it for free because these units are very difficult to find.

I went to my storage location and made sure my GTS was all snugged up. Fortunate to have her in underground secure heated garage.

she is fine but sadly itll be a number of months before she moves again.

Had the AC system flushed and filled with R12 (still made and available cheap in Asia).

Now blows freezing cold, a good thing in a tropical country

Made use of the bizarrely warm UK weather and took the car outside for a coolant change. Things I learnt include
  • The block plugs were still a little awkward to break free despite still having plenty of Copperease on the threads
  • However hard you try to avoid it the coolant will get in your eyes and mouth
  • Removing the lower rad hose is not trivial either, and resulted in coolant running all the way along my arm to my armpit, nice
  • It is very easy to refill the cooling system if you remove the rad breather and fill it using a small funnel, it took no time to get 3L in to the rad
  • I'm on my fourth pressure switch and it has started leaking again
  • My rad is weeping slightly perhaps from one of the end tanks
  • I really need to find a replacement radiator upper mount, including the bracket that is spot welded to the inner wing, because mine is missing
  • It's very reassuring when the old coolant looks no different to the new
