Adrienne took the 928 on an 11 hour road trip to Pensacola. She's driving back today. Said it was such any easy drive! I polished my new EIS while she was gone.

Started it up after replacing all rubber fuel lines under hood, injector rubber gaskets, rubber vacuum lines and completing the tune up (cap, rotor, wires and plugs).

Cranked over twice and it fired right up. Unfortunately, it had a small vacuum leak somewhere, so I pulled the air cleaner housing and mass air flow back off...looking for something I may have missed or broken (one of those little plastic vacuum lines, maybe?). Found nothing, so I double checked the o-ring for the mass air flow and wiped it clean and reassembled. Same issue. Car seemed to be running at a little higher then normal idle, naturally, so I took a screwdriver to turn the large screw on the front of the throttle body...and lowandbehold...that was where the vacuum leak was. Turning the screw just slightly ended its sucking sound.

Ran it for about four hours total checking for any fuel leaks, not finding any. Looks like it is done for this year under the hood.

Now, to the tie-rods and rear hatch issues.

A big Thank you goes out to everyone that offered advice about what needed to be done under the hood of this car. I feel a lot better about the safety aspect of it now.

Brian.

As for myself, I work on this damned thing almost every day so I dont always post in this thread...I would dominate it! Not by choice mind you, but because I can't keep it nice for more than an hour or two before something happens! I think you know what I mean!
It would become "what did Patman do to his 928 today?"

But today...

New tiller...

new juice bottle (with built in filter and a cap with a dip stick, not on my original reservoir) complete with a new flush of nice clean fluid.

installed all new hoses for my windscreen washer system, cleaned out nozzles, new plastic pass through thingies under the hood, refurbished all check valves,

and ran new plumbing and electrical wiring for an aftermarket pump now located in the wheel well.

pulled washer tank and got rid of metal insert, washed the hell outta it, cleaned and tested level sensor, refurbed headlight pump and hoses and cleaned headlight spray nozzles.

This week I'll re-install the filler tube (as soon as parts arrive) and will for the first time in a year, have an operating washer system. Of course, I've already tested everything by manually filling the tank and trying the valves, tubes and new pump. All sprays perfect!

Problem is...I'm afraid the wife saw me pull the steering wheel out from behind the couch where I was...uh...saving it. I had hoped to get it installed without having to answer budgetary questions...didn't work out for me...or my right jaw.

^^^ Love that wheel, nice Patman!

Put a few bits back in the Lady. Couple cooling hoses, Gb fuel hoses, got the PS pump and alternator on after a timesert repair.

Patman's car is a true beauty; maybe the 928 that causes the greatest lust in me of any I've seen. Mine included.

Started her up - backed her up out of the garage. Let her idle for about 20 minutes then pulled her back into the garage.

Sometimes I wish I could take her out onto the streets ...

Finally decided to finish my carpet replacement. Large center tunnel piece is all that remains (well, other than some bits in the rear that are just sitting there 'til I get the center tunnel piece in). I thought I'd go my usual ill-advised lazy route and somehow get this in without removing the seats, but that's just not going to work. Then I spilled Weldwood on a bit of carpet I'd already installed. (*sigh*) Tried to clean it up with water and mineral spirits, but it still looks like crap. Dammit.

Re-installed fuel pump cover, belly pan and for the first time in 3 years all splash guards are in place. Pulled the title out of the safe and plan to register it today. The 79 has been in-op for two years. It has seen more trailer time than road time during that period.

I caved and took the front seats and covers to a local fitter. He did an awesome job. meanwhile I shampooed the interior to get that old car smell gone. I found an ECOLAB product that is made to remove mold type smells from fabrics. I used that. I think I will still wind up replacing the rugs however.

Installed my newly recovered heated sports seats. I thought the seats were comfortable before but I could sleep in these now!

Just couple of jobs today in small but satisfying category:

Replaced front LHS foglight bulb (old one very dim because glass envelope blackened). I had installed new driving lights 5 years ago, but the retaining machine screws just slid out as I'd put on smear of copper anti-seize back in 2010.

RHS door pin switch operating only intermittently (not triggering interior lights or letting hatch release motor run). Unscrewed and cleaned threads with fibre glass pencil and some Servisol spray. Works reliably now.
