So what did you do to your 928 Today......

Choice of Fun: Root Canal or TT?
Chose the TT Replacement and glad I did. Lots of removal today for TT swap out under the watchful eye of Professor Ray, resident 928 Wrench Dude in Raleigh, NC. Exhaust pipes out. Heat shields out. Rear Brakes out and hanging. Rear Suspension out. Transmission drained, hanging by chain from sway bar and supported by jack. 4 hours so far, can’t imagine re-assembly will go faster.
Most fun I’ve had in years... TT out tomorrow and replaced with rebuilt TT from Roger along with carrier bearings, TC seal(if needed) and Transmission mounts. Also fixed a few PO sins of the past.

after doing the ring gear mod to a Dual Disc clutch.. i found that the engine would not rotate.... turns out the new timing gear was hitting the clutch slave boss inside the bell housing.... joy.
remove header
remove cover, and grind...
reinstall..
was not to bad of a job really. just hate doing stuff twice.

Race Car
Changed out a rear taillight assembly as well as adding a little "cushion" to get them off the bumper and allow them to drain better. Drilled small holes in the bottoms as well.
I know that they are supposed to be sealed but both had far too many serious cracks to assume that they were any longer. It had to have been raining inside with all the enclosed moisture.
Not gonna make SITM

Drifting
I finished prepping my car for a one week 1,500 mile trip around the Scottish Highlands. TBH that didn't really amount to much as it's going pretty well at the moment.

To keep this post topical, I began steering rack bushing replacment by dropping the rack.

Don't worry, I have a Go Pro2 mounted and ready to go, and my GF is determined to take loads of photos. A new thread beckons!

I pulled the radiator, and fixed the front flaps. Forgot to put the oil line back on and pumped about 5 guarts of royal purple on the garage floor. What a mess! Took about 25lbs of cat litter to soak, and sweep it up.

Completed TT, Carrier Bearings and Transmission Mounts. Persistent Vibration at 2200-3200 is Finally F...ing Gone.
TT on an Automatic is a way huger job than I imagined. Dropping and removing was straight forward and mostly time consuming. Lots of old brittle connectors on brakes and transmission made for a slow slog. Carrier Bearing R&R was challenging. Had a stripped bolt on the Transmission mount to Transmission point that made for some fun. The aluminum had fused to the bolt. A re-tap worked to avoid the $90 expense of a heli-coil kit but was a 3 hour detour.
With the job seemingly complete I pulled away to find 2nd gear and only second gear. Turned out Bowden cable got hung up at the transmission connector.
All is well and she is running smooth as heck!

Busted the GT out of storage for the summer daily driver season (the regular DD becomes the communal neighborhood swim team minivan)

Did some SITM 2012 Macgyvering
Rear passenger tail light gave up the ghost on two bulbs... Using my test light (wouldn't have figured this out with a Digital MM), I was able to ascertain that underneath the rust in each socket that there was still a sound positive electric signal, sooooo
I scrounged at the condo I'm staying at and took some surplus ceiling fan lighting wire (conductive multistrand). Stripped the shield from the wire with a steak knife and cut to length with kitchen meat scissors to allow me to form the perfect interim conductive springs for underneath the bulb. This was to replace the broken contact (yes one contact point rusted all the way through).
Passed the night test this evening and left me to enjoy SITM to it's fullest. Thank you Dave and Jeannie for hosting this event!
