So what did you do to your 928 Today......

I put the S4 back on the lift to see why the new Trans was leaking and not going all the way in to the 2nd gear detent. The leaking was over looking proper Tq on the trans pan bolts (duh!) and the shift to 2nd seems to have been cured by taking a little bracket from the old trans and replacing the very slightly bent one on the newly installed trans...

I'm using the two laser fixtures I made a couple years ago. Search out the DIY alignment thread and you'll see them. The H-F lasers are no longer available, but you could just as easily make them with a couple laser pointers just glued on. I'm thinking about doing another set with new/better/easier instructions at some point.
The reference to 'stun' is from ancient (think 1960's) Star Trek TV series, when the crew was instructed to set their phaser weapons to 'stun' so they wouldn't kill the target. I think of it more pragmatically, in a day when you we can use lasers to vaporize a bulldozer a mile away, yet use the same laser to do delicate eye surgery to zap floaters in Nicole's case. Just have to remember to move the power setting from "vaporize bulldozer" first.
On the alignment itself, correcting the rear toe and especially the imbalance has almost completely eliminated the slight tendency to the right. I'll still need to trim the front caster a smidge, but not nearly what it needed previously. I also get to re-center the steering wheel, now that it doesn't need that constant left input. I'm getting really close. For those playing along at home, the car gets to an almost nirvanha state of steering as the alignment gets right at perfect. The twitchies are completely gone, the crabbing at full lock from not enough caster is completely gone. Hopefully the funny wear on the outside rib of the right front tire is a thing of the past too. There's a substantial amount of iterative work to get everything correct at the same time, but the results are worth it, IMHO.

Last night put on the 928int axle shafts I bought a ways back, and changed out the shot transmission mounts.
LOTS of vibration now gone.
The small vibe left, may be wheels or the TT bearings are all shifted..but I dunno yet.

I’ve downloaded a lot of the alignment DIY guides and I guess just need to go to my folder and refresh my memory.
I appreciate the ‘stun’ reference. I know you enjoy having your way with words but will refrain from calling Nicole’s eyes zap floaters.
After you showed me the importance of the correct ride height during the last OCIC in Dallas I’ve been doing my own alignments but I think I need to do some tweaking like your doing right now so you got me inspired ones again. (Going to two lasers this time)
As always thank you for your detailed posts on RL

Machined up solid steering rack bushings. I was just buttoning up the underneath stuff from engine mount replacement, and decided on a whim to design and install rack bushes.
Man, people on this forum are really involved in their cars. I feel like a novice around here.

This one is nice with pics:

That door lock rotator wheel has a plastic cap that needs to be gently pried off with a thin blade to access the screw behind.
Also, the lock wheel surround comes off by pressing against it with your palm and unscrewing counter-clockwise.
Everything else is pretty straight forward.

I took the cover off my rear air, only to find that is where all of my R-12 went to.
I might fix that in a couple of weeks.

Drifting
I final bought a copy of garage band. I can't play it worth a dam so it should inspire me to work on the car and there for it should run again one of these days.

Drove the car some this morning. Worked on LF caster adjustment a bit. Started raining before I could take it out to settle the suspension again and take a good measurement. So while it's raining, it got some more whee-well cleaning. Mostly just dust in there, but there was a bit of film and brake dust on the top where it rolls towards the fender lip. So that all got cleaned and a little tire finish to make it all black and perfect again.
Did bring in the not-too-fancy toe adjust vernier scale to repro it in CAD for the masses at home.
Watching Daytona Speed Week coverage on the big-screen in my office as I get just a little "work" done today. It's hard to focus on work-work with all the fun-work sitting here and needing attention.
BTW, the car drove GREAT this morning on my little shopping excursion. Down to just the tiniest tweaks on the front alignment to make it perfect.

I jacked up the *** and removed the rear wheels. I ordered 2 Kumho 335/35/17 tires that will be delivered in a few days. Prepped engine to remove the intake and install a happier flappy and new Ford injectors ordered from Roger
