That's a really nice offer, Mark. Of course, someone would have to check with his wife to see what she wants done, if anything. She might want to keep the car or keep it all together. And right now might not be a good time to to bother her with this stuff. Another thing along these same lines would be to help put together advertising for the sale of the car and or the motor. I have always felt that (just as example) ebay ads with really clear and complete pictures and descriptions do much better than others. I suspect someone here could do a really great job of documenting this stuff for a sale. Damn, this is sad.

As the car is presently set up/wired for an S4 engine does it make sense to try and re-convert it back to S model?

So, it is sounding like the following could happen:
1) Greg reassembles the motor and possibly sells it with a phone call. If the phone call does not do it, perhaps we can pitch in and help document it so it goes for top dollar. I mean, this has got to be one of the most desirable 928 motors on planet, right? Greg: is there anything else the community can do the help out here?
2) Mark donates a motor (S4??) and we get together at SF and install it. If necessary, we help document and list it, again with an eye for getting top $. Mark & Greg: do you think this would make sense? Would us amatures just get in the way of you guys actually doing the work, or would we actually be helpful? If this goes the way of Leon, I would expect that we would end up using a quite a few new parts in the installation and hopefully Mark will at least let us contribute to that expense. Mark: is there anything else we can do?
3) Somebody sets up a fund where we can paypal contributions to his family. Does anybody know how to do this, or if they would be open to it?

If GB can't get a reasonable offer on an outright purchase of the engine perhaps a raffle of some sort could accomplish a couple of things. Gives those who dream of a GB stroker a chance of getting one as well as feeling good about donating to Rob's estate. Of course a re-assembled car gets sold as well.

Raffle tix for $250? Don't have to sell too many of those to get to a nice sum.

If we have a raffle, count me in on it. I'm in on whatever the community decides.

Probably not...it took some effort to get it to this stage.

Wow. Shocking. I liked Rob and enjoyed talking with him on and offline. Very enthusiastic and passionate over the 928...among other things....and an intelligent man as well. Certainly overcame hurdles in his life, but still seemed to stay blessed.

You will undoubtedly be missed Rob.

I am optimistic there is a buyer for an S4 style stroker like Robs....I WISH I was in a position to make a reasonable offer on the engine, but unforuntately I am not....

however I am willing to help in anyway I can...if that means driving to LA over a weekend to install a stock motor or donate in Robs name I will do whatever is needed....I only met Rob once, but he was a great person.....and I am blessed to have known him

Sorry to hear this. I never met or spoke to Rob. It sounds like he was a hellova' guy. My family sends their prayers. If you need someone to turn wrenches at Sharktoberfest, count me in!

EDIT: Since there may be some urgency to getting this stuff done, if you need help anytime before SF, I will make myself available anytime too. Just let me know and I will arrange my schedule.

So, assuming I can sell this/his engine....

What about taking all these ideas and combining them?

If we could get a late engine donated (Mark Anderson offered a early 32 valve engine...different beast...need to have Mark rethink that), somehow gather up all the new pieces needed, we could do a group freshen on the engine, at Sharktoberfest. Then we could put the fresh engine into the car and raffle the car off. This is an extremely nice car, very well set-up, with a pile of trick pieces. One could build for years and not have a car, this nice, so there should be interest in getting this car and helping, all at the same time.

I like the raffle on the car... would that generate as much money as selling it outright though? That would be my only concern... We are a pretty small community here after all.

Greg,I am verry sorry to hear this news.My thoughts are with you and Rob's family.I too was in the exact same position a short time ago and I know how it feels to loose a close friend that you admire, and the task of picking up the pieces that are left behind. If there is anyway I or the "east coast constituants "can help with whatever route you choose please let me know.
Godspeed Rob, R.I P.
