The car actually accelerates faster with part throttle compared to full throttle.

When I turn the car off, and restart, the problem is gone for the first mile, and then reoccurs.
By your description, it sounds like the full throttle (WOT) mixture is very rich.

See what the MAF CO is adjusted to between pins 14 and 25 on the (LH plug). It should normally be around 382 ohms, which is the factory 'zero'.

I have programmed the MAF CO adjustment to not only change the idle air/fuel ratio, but also the WOT AFR as well.

Thanks for your super fast reply! I will check tomorrow, if it is not around 382 ohms, should I adjust the co? Do I adjust it at the Maf?

Cheers

Dear Ken,

You are officially my new hero!!
I got up really early this morning to check the theory of the rich running because of faulty CO setting on the MAF.

First I checked at the LH connector and I got 1060 Ohms!?!
To doublecheck, I removed the MAF and checked between pin 3 and 6, same result, 1060 ohms!

It took about 8 full turns CCW on the adjustment screw to get it to ~ 382 Ohms.
Reinstalled the MAF and fired the car up.
The result was immediately noticable, no more hesitations AT ALL, and IN-CRE-DI-BLE power ( Off couse I warmed up the engine before going flat-out :-))

The car feels so much better than it ever did before, I am really super happy with the results.

I really wonder why the PO got the MAF CO setting so wrong??

Many many thanks and best regard from a very happy 928 owner!

Cheers
Michel

Brief update,

Just got back from work and took the 928 for a spin.
The car has totally transformed, it is AWESOME. I never thought a pair of chips could make such a huge difference.

It makes me wonder if Porsche would have sold more 928's if the factory programming was as good as PorKens ;-)

Anyhow I am very, very, please with the results.

Cheers
Michel

Yeah well, the ride back to the Woodlands from Marble Falls was pretty mellow. That is, of course, until a certain black '88 S4 wanted to get a little randy. Let's just say Ken's chips really showed up. Need to get Ken's latest and greatest installed this weekend and hopefully see a couple more hp.

First emissions test (Oregon = idle only) of V3.5 and TQrings for my '86.5 auto.

No changes except for swapping X-pipe for factory cats. Tested with no airpump, 'adaptive AFR' LH mode.

HC (ppm ≤220) = 9
CO (% ≤1) = 0.01

CO+CO² (% ≥6) = 15.6 sample size

I had Stan install Porken's chips when he was working on a bunch of other items. Everything on my car is stock except the wheels and now the chips.

Even without the X-pipe I can feel the difference. There is not that lull in the mid range when accelerating now. It accelerates smooth all the way up to redline and I feel a bit more HP as well. Some day I will get an x pipe to go with the chips!

I may keep the factory cats on the white car for the wet PacNW winter. It's a cheap form of traction control, it gets better mileage, and is quieter... (yes, I'm getting old )

Tangent - I would like to have 2.25" X-pipes instead of 2.5", which I think is too big for <340 rwhp.

Note also, re. emission test, that I also have NGK non-resistor plugs with 1.0mm gap installed.

I cruised right through emissions with one of your older chip sets. The one for cars with the stock FPR. I used factory cats and no smog pump. All numbers were well within the limits.

I've had Ken's chips installed since version 3.2 and now I'm up to the current version V3.5... Love the improvement all around and my 86.5 SCREAMS all the way to redline... The engine has a slight bumping fore & aft at light to partial throttle which is perplexing - not sure whats causing it, but I may have to adjust something on the Throttle Body... Problem is I dont know SQUAT about what I'm looking at in this regard. I can turn a wrench with the best of 'em, but dont want to screw this up. Does anyone have a thread (with lots of pics) that I can refer to for guidance??

This is a very minor annoyance, but I'd like to correct it so I can THOROUGHLY enjoy the fruits of Ken's work Thanks in advance!

Default Chips in... one word... HOLY$HIT!!!

I just had to send Ken this email after installing my chips and TQrings yesterday.

"Ken,

You are an… effin’… GENIUS!!!

It’s a whole different car. A whole NEW car. I thought I was in love before…

I’m speechless, Ken. You are going to heaven for the wonderful thing you did. Seriously… HEAVEN!!!

Drew"

I was going to start yet another Ken-is-an-effin'-genius thread, but he replied before I could and pointed me to this one instead.

Now I have to go back and have everyone I let drive my car on my personnal 928 public awareness mission drive it again. Poor me.

Thanks also, Ken for being so responsive and helpful with my questions and looking after me when I was sent the wrong FPR and cobbled together a potentially suicidal Home Depot workaround.

Gotta go. The road's calling.

Drop a line if you need an extra pair of hands. I spend most weekends working on my boat, but can try to assist with advance notice. Probably be an interesting Blau-Blau' "kodak moment" at some point!

My only problem is I've snapped most/all of the tabs off my EZK/LH installing ken's upgrades. Keep'em coming, Ken...I'll just dict tape then closed.
