This race rocks!

That's hilarious! I bet that's a first for Mark.

For those interested. Jalopnik has posted lap times and number of laps behind. I looks like our Member Only team (that is the 928 team, right?) is in 36th place and 19 laps back. They are going to need to haul some serious tail to catch the leaders. However, it looks like they can run just as fast as the frontrunners.

Sounds like things need to hold together and they need to stop passing under yellow.

Great job guys. I wish I lived closer to the action.

Figure laps at 2 1/2 minutes the 30 minute penalty and Mark's time writing on the car adds up to more than the 19 laps that they are behind......

Good luck, this is tougher than it looks. Hopefully you guys can make up some time before the last lap. Any mechanical problems?

I just got home......we ended Saturday in 36th place....I drove last (4th)...on Saturday & for my 1st ever "real" racing experience MAN was it FUN....I was out for nearly 2 hours and still had a 1/4 tank to go....I managed to gain a couple places back...Penalties KILLED US on Saturday....we got two "write this on the car 100 times" penalties....which wasted around 45 minutes..which is just about exactly the 19 laps we were behind....

The car was suffering from BAD oil leaks...pan gasket, cam tower seals..plus a bunch of other spots....a real mess every pit stop....typically we were loosing around 1 quart per hour which is about normal for a race 928..not even counting one leaking EVERYWHERE like ours....

The car is very easy to drive...handles well, powerful brakes with enough HP to easily keep up with the field....or pass everyone if you downshift....I was quite proud of drag racing a Plymouth Fury with a 440 big block down the back straight in 3rd gear the WHOLE time..so 2500rpm to around 4500....the driver of the fury was quite stunned to see another car pull him like that....

Sunday morning we were optimistic we could move up....but quickly got another penalty....Anderson went 4 wheels off to avoid a spun car, but the rules say 4 wheels off you get black flagged and go to the "penalty box"...so we had the pleasure of writing on the car 100 times AGAIN....this dropped us to 47th place about an hour into the race....

Then things got much better.....Anderson drove like a man possesed and was passing EVERYONE....he got us back to 26th place and was out for over 2 hours.....Kibort went in next and kept the momentum going.....we got all the way up to 22nd place about 23 laps back of 1st....also within our "penalty" time....

Evil Clint went out 3rd and looked good...then came in after about 45 minutes with a wicked rod knock and loss of HP.....so that was the end of our race.....

In the end we completed 195 laps in 1.5 days.....which still ended up being good enough for 71st place of 156 starters...... Not bad for Lemons rookies....since we are still learning.....just reducing our penalties would have made us a top ten car.......the 928's large gas tank, decent mileage and ease of driving makes it an excellent endurance car....every driver got out of the car saying they could have gone longer.....its that easy to drive..... the performance of this 140k miles (when the odo broke) 84 automatic, open diff with stock wheels and 225/50-16 street tires, S brakes with race pads is quite impressive......

So yes I get to rebuild a 928 engine AGAIN....but its worth it......we will be back racing lemons again...next race is March 7-8 at Infineon.....plenty of time to sort out the engine and be ready!!!!

Video to follow, but heres some pics...

Awesome effort Brian! You took a beater 928 from a certain junkyard future and gave it racing glory....well,almost.

So important tip, leave plenty of space on the car for writing.

Fun seems like it was had, hopefully more tales to be told and video?

How do the rules work now that the car is built for fixing things that break, like replacing the engine? Do you have to stay in your original money limit, or does it start over, or?

Need a cheap Euro S short block?

My typical races start 25-40 cars. We started over 150 Saturday and it was pure madness. I bet we lost 10 cars in the first 2 laps. Not only were there lots of cars mAny of the drivers had never raced.
That all said I'm not sure I've ever had a better time at a track. A big thanks to Brian and his Evil Team

I have to agree. I was smiling ear to ear from the moment I entered the front gates. The racing was the best possible and there was so much traffic, almost 2 hours just flew by! Great being a team mate with Mark A, Brian and Clint.
It was a great enduro team. the rules and some bad luck killed us, but we did look pretty good even with an hour and a half in penalties.

After the first day, we were 36th, mark had that off track avoiding a spinning car in front of him .(from my view, it looked like he got tagged, but he avoided contact) That dropped us to 39th while Mark and the rest of us had to write, "I was a porsche driver and now im a hero" 100 times after they pulled him in for the "off track" regardless of fault penalty. Then, he got us back to 30th and I got us all the way up to 22nd. Funny, it looked like our times were almost identical, as we were trying a little harder on Day 2 to try and make up places. 2:19.9 to 2:19.7. with not really any clean laps. Unfortunately, the unknown, leaky motor almost made it. I think we need to find my 170,000 short block 4.7 from 10 years ago, and put that in.

Here are the time sheets. after saturday standings
sunday after 10:30, 11:30 and then 1:30. our car broke at 1:30 or so.

Great story - despite the unfortunate engine trouble.

What's behind the name "Richard" for all?

A friend of mine is putting together a LeMons style car for a race next spring. One of his drivers has competed in a few already.
One of his last races he had such a commanding lead they pulled him in to write a two full page essay about the race. Then once back underway they pulled the team in again for a tire rotation......only to find out hey filled all of their sockets with Great Stuff spray insulation.

Hopefully with any luck I'll be involved in the next event.
