wow , street pads too? that looks almost as bad as the RX7 pads I ran in the last SCCA race, but there was no pad left, only metal.
what is the plan for changing pads? those pads should only be good for about 8 hours of racing, do you change them after the first day, or do you think one set will work for the 2 days?

changing the old style caliper pads in the hot pits would be a TIME killer!

8 hours, HA! those should last 3 whole lemons races. thats about 40hrs of racing. atleast they did on the V8olvo which weighs a tad bit more and wasnt exactly putted around the track, i dont know how they do it but they do and withoutt eating the rotor either. And just in case we have a spare set of pads. Well unfortunatley the car wont make it to tommorrows test day due to a fuel leak problem, the new o ring did not come in time. but it gives us. im mean, me time to work on it more.

Ill turn those pads into sheet metal in 4 race weekends, and thats about 8 hours of racing and qualifying and thats in the same exact car that runs about 10 seconds faster a lap. (I did this in my old '84 928 with those type brakes) Sure, the rotors will survive, as they usually lasted close to 6 weekends before they started cracking. If you want to pull back several seconds a lap, I can drive the entire course with no brakes at all, as I did at laguna seca, but not by choice. (well, not in an automatic, but you get the point). If you push those brakes for some fast laps, there wont be any pads left after 8 hours. If we back off and run 2:20 a lap, sure the pads will last near forever.
Im sure they will last 8 hours, but depending on how you drive, you can turn half gone pads to dust, in only a few hours, so we probably should think of what the 2nd set of pads look like and what kind they are. as far as rotors, the good news is that if you are changing pads, the rotors come off quickly. Just make sure the set screws are removed, because if they are jammed, that will be a lot of time breaking them free or drilling them out in the hot pits.

Mark, I think you'll quickly find that LeMons racing has little in common with SFR SCCA racing...

Imagine four times the number of cars as Group 1 normally has, with about one twenty fifth of the collective racing experience in the drivers, and, well, you get the idea... Put two wheels off trying to avoid an offline car or accidentally brush up against one and you're in for a penalty (and your chance for the win is essentially gone). In other words, you need to race really conservatively. You'll be luck to get in many teens or two-twenties until attrition starts to really thin the herd.

And energy grows with the square of velocity, so 10 seconds faster is a LOT more energy that your brakes are getting rid of every lap.

See you next weekend!

Cheers,

Dean

Man, I gotta say, that Estate looks pretty damn good. I never would have thought it. Good job on having a little vision. Lets just hope you don't end up getting too much exhaust sucked in through the back window.

I have always been of the mind that being conscious helps your lap times.
