Mark, did you get her number? Because that guy did mention that his girlfriend or wife was trying to steal one if his cars or something like that. I didn't pay much attention to much of what he was talking about because he talked like he was on meth or coke or something...
I know exactly what Mike is going through. I paid (what i feel) was waaaay too much for my 79. The guy who was selling it claimed the car only had 40k miles, original paint, original everything... I drove all the way to LA just to look at it. Got there late at night, but I figured "Hey, it's only got 40k miles, what could be wrong?"
Well, the next morning the car looked like trash in my driveway. I had already found that it had been repainted numerous times. The engine compartment looked like it had over 200k miles at least. To this day, I had not heard the car run, even after being in a shop for a month!
I decided to do a full restoration since it was just so bad. As I'm stripping parts off I notice all these things that just made me sick!
1. Someone did a hack job roof swap! I wanted a car with a sunroof, but not one that had been held on with bondo! I couldn't believe it, I just wanted to sell the car right there!
2. The odometer had been set back numerous times! I was going through all the documentation on the car, and found at least four mileage discrepancies! I called the guy who sold it to me and he called the PO and sure enough he claimed he only set it back once because he put a new motor in it..... It's still not legal! I know the guy was lying, but what can I do?
3. 5 speed conversion hack job! The car was converted to a five speed, the firewall mount just bolted in and not even welded!
4. The list just keeps going on and on and on and on as I strip the car down.....
It's happened to all of us. This guy basically told me to F* off when I confronted him about all these problems and how this WAS NOT the car he advertised. I could have bought TWO decent OB's for that price!
At least I am willing to help Mike out with getting the car right.
Why don't we all put our resources together to help with the situation?
I know he needs the front suspension, and brakes. Maybe he should make sure the tranny is a four speed???
Well Mike, just let me know what I can do. Maybe the guy with the crispy S4 will discount his parts for us, I already talked to Gio, his stuff is sold. I will help out with some of the cost, because this whole thing is soooo wrong.
Dangler, the attorney I spoke with tells me I have no recourse. Besides, I don't think this guy has lived in the same place longer than a few months, and I KNOW he doesn't have a job...
James, your right man. I have a LOT to be thankful for. My back injury didn't put me in a wheel chair, but it does keep me from the lifestyle I had before. You obviously found a way to keep your passion for cars, I have a lot of admiration...
Now, are we all going to come together to help Mike, or are we going to keep arguing?

What I don’t get is why are there so many here that expecting a refund? Maybe the North American society is so used to getting free refunds, on a regular basis that, most people think it’s their right to do so. When in fact, it’s nothing more than a business strategy that the retail industry developed to attract more customers. Unfortunately many think that this can extend to anything they buy, even used items like cars.
In this case and even at best, is a $hitty situation for both parties as none seem to be at fault. In all honesty it was up to the buyer to inspect the car before buying it and in this case, things were not noticed until after the sale. I bet everyone here that bought a 928 didn’t know all the problems or faults until after they bought their cars and really, this case is no different.

Maybe a front suspension R/R GTG is in order. Easy for me to say since I can't participate but a good idea I think.
How about it Mike? I'll order the Pizza local to you for any day you choose.

"Steve", if that is his real name, swindled some one out of valuable parts and MONEY!
The intent on by this guy "Steve", was to defraud some one.
BB has made his case and I believe him in that he had no intent to deceive anyone, he even pointed out things that he knew were wrong.
On the other hand, it seems that it was known that parts were being taken off of this car and that should have warranted a much closer inspection from BB and Mike.
Bottom line is that BB should have never sold the car with a promise to pay and should have kept the car until it was paid for in full and Mike should have given the car a much closer inspection before he bought it.
There may be no legal recourse against this guy "Steve", but that in no way means that there is no action that can be taken.

There is is plenty of legal recourse with this guy regarding the parts he stole and exchanged with BB79's car. The recourse that does not exist is the ability to sue him for not buying/paying for the car in the first place. Small claims with solid documentation and witness will get a positive judgement.
