About all I can do from Hawaii. No Domino's here but certainly in SoCal I would think. Or from any Pizza place of Mike's desire. I'd spring for beer too but I don't think that can be ordered over the phone.

i have to say, its not necessary to spend $300 on a PPI to see if the correct brakes are on the car. Although those damn sewer cover lids cover everything up so i guess you would have had to pull a wheel off before hand.

Funny how this thinking works, but nobody expects a refund at say -a swap meet. You look at the part, make up your own mind, pay the asking price (or barter) -or pass on it.

Still, even though used parts are the same parts found at a swap meet -even dismantlers are being required to 'warranty' their used parts. Sure it's comforting to the buyer -but it is still a used part. Hard parts are easier to warranty than some other parts, like electronics or engines & trannys. There is simply too much that can go wrong in disassembling something to inspect it and then put it back together with the same used components... nobody would do that to their own car. Yet, it does seem to be the prevailing attitude among many enthusiasts... especially here.

In fact, not too distant memory reminds me that this type of thinking was some people's reasoning as to why 928WorldWide needed to be banned as a sponsor. Many jumped on the bandwagon with bitches and gripes about things that had nothing to do with the real issue in that case. Private issues should have been handled... privately.

Want a new part with no issues? -contact Porsche and pay the cost.
Want a good part and are on a budget? -contact a dismantler and assume the risk.
However, most dismantlers are in it for a living and will stand behind their items and their professional reputation... it's when someone returns an item 360 days out on a 365 day warranty -that causes prices to go up and up, as a business will soon close if it has to absorb those warranty fees.

These cars are not new. Most available parts are not new. It is up to the buyer to inspect as thoroughly as possible and make up their own mind.

I didn't do a PPI on my car. It had spent a lot of time in both Texas and Florida. The P.O. has disappeared, but the P-P.O. is someone on this forum and respected by all -and provided more information about my car than the missing person I bought it from.

Regrets? No, I don't really think that way.
Learning experience? Abso-freakin-lutely.
Change anything if it was possible? Yep... get a PPI and offer less.
Lesson learned? Nobody to blame but myself... and nobody to praise but myself when it gets done right!

I hope Blythe and Mike can get this resolved amicably...

Just turn the wheel all the way to one side and take a look, you should be able to see the ball joint orientation like that with the stock wheels and 225 tires. Not sure I would have done that when inspecting an S4 though...

There isn’t a need for that or to even move or touch anything. You can easily see the top and a bit of the side of the callipers (both front and back). The physical difference between the old callipers (single piston) and the new ones (4 piston) is day and night. Easily noticeable even by the most novice of “inspector” ….. BUT you have to notice to see the difference.

How about if you bought a control arm for a 89 and the part that got sent to was taken off of a 89 but was a part for a 79?

Or a transmission for a 86 and it turns out to be a 84?

Or paid for a block that you were told had no scratches in the bores and it turns out that is not the case and then were told you could not get a refund?

Would you still say "I assumed the risk" or would you expect to get what you thought you were paying for?

This is a EDIT: I know of no one that has had any of the things above happen to them, it was a post to show a point.

You seem to be missing the point. Nothing was sent to anyone here. The buyer actually looked at the car with his own eyes and agreed to buy it. Then after, it was discovered that some of the parts were not what they supposed to be. You can’t compare this situation to something that was bought, site unseen, and the seller’s description was the “insurance”.

Completely unbelieveable. I'm having trouble finding the words to describe how this makes me feel. Yesterday, I was sick to my stomach all day long. Now I come here this afternoon to have tears brought to my eyes.

I have never been part of something as big in heart as the 928 RL...

I posted this thread not to accuse anyone of anything without proof. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be a candidate for the generosity that has been extended to me. I posted to get opinions on what I should do, and to try to get some relief from grief. What was returned ultimately in the posts was a community of support, and the full story of where the parts went and where they ended up. I couldn't imagine this type of thoughtfulness, communication and action to occur ANYWHERE else on the web. I am truely blessed to be part of the 928 RL family...

Thank you to everyone involved, and especially the members who chipped in to right the shark. I owe all of you more than the worth of the parts, and I don't know how I will ever repay you. I guess I will buying the beers for some time to come.

I would like to make a public apology to BB79, AKA Blyth B. I was wrong to a accuse you of owning a million dollars worth of cars. On that ststement I'am sorry, and I do apologize. I too was in the military, for 24 years I was a rescue and salvage diver for the U.S. Navy. My training and career was spent trying to save lives. I admit I'am not a trained killer like you claim to be. Diring that time I found that the real tough guys, Marine Force Recon, And the SEALS, were very quiet about thier capability. I think it would be best to let sleeping dogs lay where they are. If you all want to find that Steve person, try ZABA SEARCH, it's free, and can locate just about anyone with a name or phone number.
One more thing Blyth, my real nane is Joe Norman, the polecat thing is the plate on my Pantera, Nevada tags. I do live in Las Vegas, and I keep my boat tied up by the Delta Marine boatyard in San Diego. If I'am not in the Pantera, I drive my Yellow El Camino when we take the boat out.
