Ive seen so many 928 parts, it should have been instantly evident to me. The manhole cover wheels cover up the caliper, but I can see the diference. Long story short----I should have inspected better...

HEY!!! THESE PARTS ARE LABELED ABBY NORMAL!!!!!!!!

caveat emptor my friend....

Its sad how many people "conduct" themselves...... all the more reason for a PPI from someone who knows what they are looking for

Hold up a second Mike, this guy is a fellow rennlister. I guess the unwitten rule of being honest doesn't apply to BB79. At least he doesn't think so. If I were you I would tell him he has to make this right, before I make it permanent. I expect people out side of this forum to try to take advantage of me.
Rennlister's go out of thier way to help each other, not try to screw another member. This clown is a dirt-bag, and should be treated as such. He deserves nothing, fry his ***. Makes you wonder how he got a million dollars worth of cars, don't it?

Caveat emptor is correct but unless this turns out to be a complete coincedence this thread is going to get nasty.

I'm not condemning BB79 yet. I'm hoping he might be able to recover the parts from the guy who bought it previously.

You can easily check the rears through the rims. If you have the 4 piston calipers than the reras are orginals, if not then.......

'79 is the worst out of all the bfrakes the 928 came, even just an S would have been an "upgrade" to those.

I'm not sure that a PPI would have picked up on this. After all, the mechanic, unless it's a 928 expert, only looks for parts that are worn out. If the grafted on '79 suspension is in good working order, it could be easily missed during the PPI.

Pretty sure I would have missed it.
It would not be something that even some one who knows 928 would be looking for.
If it had S4 brakes that is, I would have noticed that if they were not S4 brakes, I hope I would have.

Default My Defense

Hey Guys

First off, I don't blame any of you for jumping to Mike's rescue. Anyone who has ever met or even been in communication with him knows what an awesome person he is and even after the sale we have stayed in touch and I hope when I say Mike has become a friend, the feeling is mutual. I would be concerned if you guys WEREN'T sharpening your pitch forks!
That being said, let's look at this situation from all perspectives, I will explain everything that has happened and you can draw your own conclusions from there.

1. The car Mike bought was sold to a real "class act" by the name of Steven Guider. I placed an on craigslist, advertising that I was willing to accept short term payments on the vehicle. Steven Guider responded to the ad the first day and a contract was written up stating he would pay me half of the selling price in two weeks and the rest in another two weeks.
Please keep in mind before this time I had never even driven this car as I thought it had some type of internal damage. (I bought the car not running.)
I found out Steven got the running the next day and was driving it around daily. He said the noise I heard went away and the ran fine. Now, as per our contract he agreed to keep full coverage on the car until it was paid for. He then told me it wasn't insured yet, and that he didn't have the $160 down payment required. I loaned him the 160 bucks to buy the insurance because I had a bad experience once involving the same type of situation. He told me he insured the car in his friends name because his driving record was cleaner, I didn't mind as long as the car was fully covered.
Later he calls me and needed my help with the registration since I wouldn't allow the car to be put in his name until the car was paid for. I ended up by keeping our name as the lien holder and his friend was the registered owner. While at the DMV the woman doing the paper work needed the friend DL#. His friend didn't know his DL# because he lost it last month. Right there I turned to this Bastard Steven Guider and asked HOW THE HELL he was able to insure the car in his friends name WITHOUT his drivers license number! He admitted he lied and promised to take care of it.
I know I should have canceled the deal RIGHT THERE but I really needed to get rid of the car, as I had no place to park it. Again, I loaned him ANOTHER 150 dollars to buy insurance...
Well, two weeks go by and no word from Mr. Guider. I make repeated calls and leave messages but no answer. Finally, he answers his phone and tells me he can't afford the car and I need to come pick it up.
I went and picked up the car from his house. I asked if he still had insurance on the car and he showed me a AAA insurance card with his friends name on it but not the vehicle info. He stated it was a temporary card and the permanent card would have had the vehicle info. I never should have believed him.
Wonders never cease... I get pulled over on the way home by CHP for accidentally turning left on a one way street (I wasn't familiar with the area Steven lives.)
So now the officer asks for proof of insurance, which I can't produce. I tell the officer the situation and I get stuck with a ticket for an illegal turn and driving without insurance. I called Steven and he promised me he would get the paper work for the insurance. I have not heard from him since.
I made repeated visits to the place were he was staying. I even spoke with a guy who lived nearby and he knew him as the "PooPoo Porsche Guy". Why? I asked. He said because the brown Porsche he drives around looks like a brown turd. I told him the car was silver not brown. He then told me he remembered him taking parts off the silver car. He thought he was repairing it or something.
Today, when I went looking for this scum bag Steven Guider, the same guy told me a lot of people have been looking for him, and he hasn't seen or heard form him in some time and he might have moved.

2. When Mike bought the car, I told him about the situation before him. And how the neighbor told me he saw him pulling parts off the car. I told Mike I didn't find anything missing, but please keep an eye out and let me know if something comes up. He let me know he would.
I don't remember, but I might have told him about the rear A/C unit being one of the parts I found missing, Mike, did I mention this? I don't remember.

3. Yes, I posted questions about the upper A-arms. Remember, I never drove the car before I sold it so I had no way of knowing about how the car drove. At the gas station on the way home I was putting air in one front tire and when I turned a tired while it was parked I noticed the wheel moved. When I pulled on the top part of the tire it shook. I figured ball joint. When I got home, I checked it and both nuts were loose on the upper ball joints. I could not get them to come off because I wanted to check them out. So I posted questions on how to get them off. As you remember I never got them off!

I EVEN SHOWED MIKE! "MIKE LOOK! THESE NUTS ARE LOOSE! And I can't figure them out! He will verify this is true. I don't remember but the calipers must have been in plain view, I don't know why I would bring his attention to it if I was trying to hide anything...

4. Yes, I took the a arms off my car. I took EVERY LAST NUT AND BOLT OFF MY CAR, I'M RESTORING IT!!!!

5. Yes, my car is a 1979. Could someone please tell me what year Porsche produced more 928's than ANY OTHER YEAR!

Mike and I have spoke a few times today regarding the situation. It really sucks, for both of us.
I called an attorney today looking for any recourse any this Steven Guider piece of trash.
I explained the entire situation from start to finish and the first thing she asked was,
"Did you have the car on CL?"
Me: Yes.....
"Did you mention anything about taking payments?"
Me: Yes.....
"How much money did you get down?"
Me: Well actually, so far, I've PAID HIM $310!
"Did he register the car in someone else name?"
Me: Are you freaking kidding me? How did you all know this?????

Well apparently it is becoming more common, with today's economy, for scum bags like Steven Guider to promise to buy a car, take LEGAL POSSESSION of it, take what they need to get THEIR OWN car running or fixed up the give the car back, and LEGALLY be in the clear! In the time he had it, even though I was the lien holder his buddy or whoever was the registered owner and has the right to do what ever they want with it.

THIS IS THE COUNTRY I FOUGHT FOR? I HAVE AK-47 SCARS ALL OVER MY BODY TO PROVE WHAT? OUR LEGAL SYSTEM FAVORS CRIMINALS???

Believe me, I am just as upset as Mike. I truly am trying to make a good name for myself on this forum, this close knit community I have grown so fond of and have made many friends on. Why would I pull something like this? Did I really think I was going to fool a die hard 928 specialist???

NO!!!

A move like that would have been Forum Suicide! I honestly NEED this community! How the hell do I think I'm going to EVER get my car back together without all of you? Huh?
Now, thanks to STEVEN GUIDER! most of you have made up your minds, and written me off as another snake only here to prey on nice people like Mike Ballard.

Now the question is, do I owe Mike Ballard anything? No. He bought a used car. And up until this morning, he was VERY happy with it!
I honestly feel TERRIBLE about this whole ordeal and am willing to help out anyway I can! I even went out looking for Steven Guider this morning trying to get our parts back (ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!)

I want to come through for my friend Mike and do what any TRUE MAN would do HELP OUT WITH REPLACEMENT COST. Now I haven't worked in almost five years, and what little bit I had saved up was going towards my car, but hey, that's the cost of putting your money were your mouth is.

With all this being said, I really am ashamed at some of you for pointing your fingers so quickly. Brett, "doesn't surprise you?"" What the hell did I ever do to you? Every person I have ever dealt with has nothing but great things to say about me. I don't deserve the backlash I got from a lot of you, no matter how suspicious things might have appeared. Get both sides first, please. I'm not the scum bag some of you are probably imagining.

All you guys are doing is dragging my name in the mud and it hurts, it truly hurts...

It makes no sense to me that anyone that wants to be a part of the 928 community would try a parts switch. Discovery was inevitable, outrage predictable.

I'll stick with what I first said, its too serious to speculate.

Kevin, "doesn't surprise you?"" What the hell did I ever do to you? Every person I have ever dealt with has nothing but great things to say about me. I don't deserve the backlash I got from a lot of you, no matter how suspicious things might have appeared. Get both sides first, please. I'm not the scum bag some of you are probably imagining.

All you guys are doing is dragging my name in the mud and it hurts, it truly hurts...
