There was a vote taken by the Des Moines Times last year and it was decided that in the interest of simplicity and clarity, the term OB would refer to Old Bodystyle and encompass all models pre S4.

This was cleared with the German Government and a copy sent to the secretaty of OCIC.

That's what I've always called an OB. Pre S4 with the new spiffy bumpers which I like a lot

Keisen, your the same guy who stole that Lambo from the pawn shop and then sold it. Is flipping 80's era sports cars your new business or is it just a hobby?

Can't blame a guy for flipping a car like that. At least it is now back into the 928 and/or Porsche community and will get a new owner that appreciates it, even if that new owner has no intention of driving it and just preserves it.

I am that guy, yes. Although it depends on what your definition of "stealing" something is. In this case, I tracked down a car (the '81 Countach LP400S series 2) I had seen at a repair shop. It turned out to have been repossessed by the lienholder who, in turn, was a pawn shop with a car dealers license. I was the first person to express interest and I asked the guy flat out what he needed to sell the car for cash with no hassles. He told me and I accepted although I suggested he mark it up another $1000. He said OK and I wrote a check. Done deal.

Did a "theft" occur? I don't think so, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Oh and I am always looking for something interesting. I suppose it is part of my business, yes, but in truth the cars are more of a hobby. This year I've just been very fortunate. I chalk it up to all that clean living!

Ok so today I drove what is essentially a new 1982 928. With square tires Fine up until 25 mph, so that was my speed limit. More on that later.

Called Leif at 8 am, and he was done. Went over there right away and we went over the car and he let me take pics while it was on the lift. She's pretty clean under there. Not one scrape on the spoiler or the pan under the engine. The pics pretty much say it all.

Leif changed all the fluids, flushed out the 20 year old 1/2 tank of gas, flushed the brakes, swapped the front and rear hood support struts, t/b, w/p, seals, belts, adjusted the sunroof, etc, etc., etc.

Total restoration (resurrection?) costs thus far including my repair bill at Autowerks Northwest, a roundtrip flatbed trip from Seattle to Woodinville back to Seattle (20 miles one way) and 3 cash tip is just over $4k. Not including the price of the car of course

Drove the car about 6 miles today in the city. Drives, looks, smells and operates like new (up till 25 mph). Icy cold air on a 90 degree Seattle summer day. Thus far there have been no surprises.

Spent maybe 2 hours vacuuming, lightly wiping down the interior and I washed the exterior. No wax, polish, etc. I did use a shammy cloth to prevent water spots. I also sort of "dusted" the engine compartment because it was, well, dusty. There. Restoration complete!

Every last thing works exactly as it should. I did find one tiny (1/10th matchstick head size) paint chip on the hood.

How about some pics?

Beautiful condition, incredible.

Is that some oil on the oil pan? I suppose even if the car is not used the cork gasket shrinks a bit & lets some oil out?
