Default OB barn find!

Well not a barn find "per se", it was in a garage in a very nice Seattle neighborhood. But at least it was covered in dust!

So I am a motorcycle dealer. A colleague had told me about an '84 Honda VF1000F Interceptor owned by one of his clients that may be for sale. My colleague took a pass on the bike and asked if I was interested in this one-owner bike with low miles. Yep, I sure was. My colleague went on to tell me about the old 928 sitting there with low miles gathering dust as well. Hmmmm. Interesting!

I wasn't given the person's phone number, rather, I waited for him to call. And call he did yesterday the 24th. He told me about the bike, but not about the car and I did not bring it up. He gave me directions to his house and I showed up there 45 minutes later in my 928S4. I called for final directions from the street in front of his house, and he asked if I was the guy 3 houses down with my brake lights on in a 928. He went on to tell me about the 928S in his garage. "Oh really?" I replied.

So he showed me the bike. Perfect, like new, had not been operated since 1986 with 1500 miles on the clock. Came with a matching Bates leather suit/boots and a mint as-new Freddie Spencer Arai helmet from back in the day. No brainer! Done deal.

So then he showed me the '82 928S auto he bought new back in the day from University Porsche-Audi of Seattle. Royal blue, black interior and other than the 20 year-old layer of dust the car was absolutely like new in every way.

THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED MILES!!!

Evidently he had come in to have his car serviced after the 1000 mile check at 3500 miles or so. The service advisor at the dealer at the time told him they were going to check the valve adjustment. Our dentist owner was mechanically savvy enough to know his car didn't need that, so he left. After that he did not feel comfortable taking the car in for service so his answer to that was to quit driving it.

So he was on the fence in regards to selling the car. At his point in life, $$$ did/does not matter. I wrote him a check for what I thought was fair and asked him to think about it.

That all was yesterday the 24th. Today the 25th, I went back for some other documents and items for the bike. We spoke of the car again, and he told me that were I to pay just a bit more the car was mine. Anticipating this, I handed him the check I had already filled out for $2k more than the one from the 24th. We waited together for the flatbed. I hosed the dust off in his driveway while we waited on a beautiful Seattle summer day. There was some seller's remorse, but it passed.

This afternoon, the flatbed came and took the car to Leif at Autowerks Northwest, a 928 friendly shop. Late next week I should be picking her up.

Guys this car is ready to win a concours right now. Everywhere looks/is like new. Every bit of documentation from the time of sale came with it. The dealer had installed a state of the art (for 1982) Concord/ADS sound system and Ungo Box alarm. Other than that she is bonestock.

Wish me luck!

Awesome! Time to wake up Rip Van Winkle and take it for a log overdue drive. Post up lots of pics once you get it road-worthy.

WOW!! I have got to see that! I'll be down in Centralia in about two weeks. Certainly worth a drive to Seattle to see that.

Jeez Kie, first the Countach and now this- you're going to have to write 'The Cobra in the Barn- Seattle Edition' if you keep this up.... Cheers!

Looks like a great find. I like the color also. Very cool.
By the way, there were no 928S in 82 in the US, was it
an Euro or an 83 maybe?

I believe in '82 they offered the competition model with the flat dish wheels and the S front and rear spoilers.
