hate me for saying this, but it looks like a new 911 carrera S!!! (but better!)

I really like the look with no wing!

generally, with most efficient wings, the lift to drag coefficient is near 10:1 for most moderate lift ranges. (better with less lift) so, with my 250lbs of downforce at 120mph, its like 12lbs of drag or 12ft-lbs at the rear tires (assuming 24" tires) AND, at 100mph in 3rd gear at a near 5:1 total gear ratio, its near a little over 2ft-lbs of engine torque lost.

So I wonder how much a spoiler which generates little downforce (elimination of lift) does for the CD ??

Be forewarned that when you unscrew the nuts sometimes the studs break off....so you might really be wingless !

I hope they painted that black GTS where they took the wing off.

I'm thinking that is what happened in the 1st place. I'm hoping that Lowes will have a nut/bolt combo that I can just retap in place. Otherwise I'll just purchase a used/good wing and have it painted to match the car. The old one will get to hang on the garage wall and look cool.

I am not sure how big the metal nut plate is inside the rubber so it may be possible to go a little oversized with a new stud.

Interesting blurb on the Boxster..." With a drag coefficient of 0.31 and lift forces on the Coefficient front and rear axles reduced to a minimum, it sets new standards in its class. of drag Its smooth undertray reduces the car's drag coefficient by a full six percent, and the smooth floor pan reduces lift forces on the front axle by 36 percent. When activated, the speed dependent rear spoiler minimizes lift forces. It deploys at speeds exceeding 75 mph (120 kph), and returns to its rest position when speed drops below 50 mph (80 kph). Porsche aerodynamicists measured a lift factor of only 0.13 on the front axle and 0.10 at the rear....." MY, MY they do not even bother to raise the spoiler until 75 MPH think of the waste of fuel !!!! What were they thinking ?? If the spoiler is up you are speeding ...

So when does the big wing sale start? Should be some good deals with all the competition that there will be in the market.

There is one more consideration: We have no idea what the revised air flow over and under the wing does to the rest of the air behind the car. How does it influence the air coming around the sides? How does it influence the air coming from underneath? What if it creates a situation where the revised airflow creates downforce elsewhere?

We don't know and we can't tell unless we take it to a wind tunnel. The Formula 1 teams have long figured out that changing one little thing can wreak havoc to the vehicles' whole aerodynamics. You always have to look at the whole thing again.

I won't downgrade. Even if it's just a matter of precaution. I want to be able to use the car's full potential when the occasion arises. Some day I want to break the 150 barrier... and live to tell.

It appears that the wingless late cars are coming out of the closet so to speak, maybe next will be the undertrays

Undertrays? Undertrays? I don't wear no stinking undertrays, I go commando. Oops, sorry, thought you were talking about something else. Wow! I expected some chatter about this subject but I'm blown away by the response to this topic. And a lot of the heavy hitters on this list (mark, heinrich, sterling, roger and all the rest of the respondents) have pretty much convinced me (and maybe even themselves) to perform a wingasectomy upon their beloved 928. Yes, we are coming out of the closet, and will expose our true feelings (not that there's anything wrong with that) and free our sleek, smooth butts of the shackles of the wing!

Hell, I've been running sans undertrays for a long time. Don't want those things getting dirty.
