Default Whacking the wing?

I've spent a lot of time thinking about doing a rear wing delete on my '91 $4. Before a lot of panties get bunched up their airfoils, look at all the georgeous OB's that do not have them, or at max, a duck's *** spoiler. An awesome example (IMHO) was Keith Widom's '82 that has graced the pages of 928 Internationals' catalogues on page 6 for years. That smooth, tight, little butt just plain appeals to me. Now I really don't have an **** fixation about this and then go and put an OB *** on my $4, I just want to purify the sleek lines on the car! I'm going to do a rear air, seat and wiper delete (rear, air, seat, wipe....get it?); why not the wing too? Seriously, I'm relatively confident that it should not affect handling at the speeds (under 120, typically) that I drive and that along with GTS mirrors, Carrera III wheels and maybe......new sideskirts like watercooler is installing, updates "the look" a little bit. OK gang, tell me what you think!

Body and paint work after that and then finally new interior leather.

Probably a year ago I did a double take on a 928S4 model without the wing. Couldn't say whether it was a deliberate delete but the curves and width of the rear were enhanced without the black wing sitting there.

The "wing" was 99 % for the look and 1 % for function but that look is a very dated one. Flairs spoilers and wings just indicate that they screwed up on the basic body shape in the first place.

There is a GTS owner up here in Norcal that rolls without the wing. He just likes the wing-less look better. So do whatever you want, but I would suggest keeping the wing so when you sell the car, we don't read a post by the new owner of a 91 S4 cursing out the dumb-**** PO that removed the wing

So where do you put the lunch meat and grey poupon when you make sammitches?

Maybe it's the photos but the wingless S4's I've seen just look wider.

The wing on my 87 S4 developed a considerable sized lump on the left side so I removed
it about six months ago. I really like the new look. To me the wing makes the car look heavier
and longer than it already is and the unobstructed view from the rear-view mirror is wonderful.
Also less lbs to cart around, easier to wash under the rear wiper, and liberates the S4's beautiful
rear lines. Also, less strain on the pneumatic hatch lifters. The only downside is you have to plug
the four mounting holes with something. I used some small nylon inserts I found at Lowes that almost
match my Diamante Blau paint. I chose to plug rather than do bodywork and paint as I may want
to go back to a wing someday, if I find a nice one at the right price.

Agreed. Especially with the wing not being painted the body color. Makes me wonder if people on the road think I'm some type of ricer boy racer wanna be.

Keep us posted if you do the delete. I'd love to see the pics and see what your process is. -Ed

There was or maybe still is an 86.5 S in the Toronto area that had the factory S delete option but with the S rims and is very weird looking at first. Looks just like a pre S 928 but upon closer look you can see the 4 piston calipers through the original factory installed manhole rims.

I perfer the S4s without the wing, they look wider.

There is one good thing about the wing. At my Cayenne ride height, it would block most headlights of the cars behind me when stopped in traffic. If I see headlights under the wing that means the numnutz has stopped their car too close to mine.

Who's attached a 911 whaletail to their 928?

older body is really not different because we are used to seeing ob's with no skirt spoiler.
